What Did You Do To Your Sonata Today?

Did you do a small mod,a repair, maintenance, either minor or major?

Today, the car went to the dealer for it's first oil and filter change on the new motor. Miles on the old oil(Hyndais blend) was 3381. Going forward,I will be doing the oil changes using Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W20 or 0W30. OIC will be at a minimum of 5000 miles and a maximum of 6000 miles even if a Blackstone report comes back saying the oil can go much more which I believe it will.

I will tell you what though, for what Hyndai charges for a regular oil change you cannot go wrong if you do not want to get your hands dirty.

Oil/filter using conventional oil.$34.99 Top all fluids plus inspection, car wash

I had a coupon for $24.95

I have coupons for $19.95 but these are for Break Masters. I have always taken my Sonata there since owning it. And today, I took it in for front breaks at a cost of $132.15 lifetime warranty. Rear brakes were still good and not needed.

But now, it appears I may need a new exhaust or catalytic converter as it is making a deeper tone when starting and I can hear something rattling- which leads me to suggest, say that it is the catalytic converter. Car has 51,000 miles.

If its the CAT, should be covered at no cost by EPAmandated 90,000 mile minimum on all pollution related parts, including catalytic converter. I know some Volksawagen dealers here in New England got in hot water for saying it was NOT covered, as out of 60k vehicle warranty.

Hi AF1. I was under the impression new Hyundai buyers got the very first oil change for free. Mine was free, and I have heard others mention it too. Did your dealer charge you for your first one?

I got a coupon from a local Hyundai dealer for a free oil change the other day-- they also included some other very generous coupons like this one:

It's hard to resist such a tempting offer . . .
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but paying $39.95 +tax for a cabin air filter your already paying for that "free" oil change. You can get a filter and install it yourself in 2 minutes for a third of that price. Just saying...

Weather was nice today so I gave mine a bath. We had snow over the weekend and the road crews love to get over zealous with the sand and salt. Needless to say the car was disgusting. Plus i don't like the grime on the paint for too long. :)

For the first time on this car,I added a 20 oz. bottle of Techron Concentrate Plus in lieu of the two additives MMO and Pri-G which are added every time we fuel up. The Techron will be added at every oil change going forward,at roughly 5000-6000 miles.

Seeing as it was a balmy 4 degrees this morning, I backed the car out of the warm garage. The car told me to get F****d and pulled itself back into the garage. dang new fangled computer systems.

Aah,the benefits of having a smart car.:grin2:LOL,yeah its way too cold too early!

Oil change for me today, gotta love the prepaid plan. They did get an extra $20 out of me for the cabin air filter. Funny story and a word of caution....couple months ago, I had some fault codes and idiot lights in the dash(brake, traction control). Took it in to my selling dealer, and after about 2 weeks, they determined it to be rodent damage, they even supplied pictures. A little skeptical, I (un)willingly paid the bill, not covered under warranty. Fast forward to today, my NEW dealer performed the oil change and was actually doing the advertised multipoint inspection and found chewed up insulation and filter element on top of the cabin filter. Now, I'm just mad that my original dealer never found it and I drove around for the last 5 months with a mouse nest on top of the cabin filter. Glad I switched dealers! So, with the change in weather, pop your glove box and take a peek, never know what you might find.

I replaced my cabin filter for the OEM Hyundai one for around $10, they have charcoal filters that stop 99% of dust particles but I didnt buy one as I just replaced with what I had. Replacing it myself took less than a minute.... very very simple replacing the air filter and the cabin filter...first time I ever did it myself too.....

Replaced the battery in my key fob. Would not start the car today. I borrowed my wife's key and the car started OK. Pheew. :grin2: This is my first car ever with push button start. I guess the batteries don't last as long as the regular keyless entry fobs as the transponder must send out a signal 24/7. Only $1.99 for a new CR2032 so really no big deal. LOL.

Cheers.

Must be the cold weather taking its toll. Small batteries do not like the cold. :) Glad it wa a cheap fix.

Not ALL small batteries. :) I have some 3v lithium batteries in all of my wireless burglar and fire alarm devices in my garage that have been there for 15 years now. Same as most of the ones indoors where its always warm. I see absolutely no difference in their longevity. I installed a wireless system when I moved in 15 years ago and of the 26 batteries used, only 8 of them have needed replacing since. all of those were indoors in smoke detectors. The doors exposed to outside temperatures are still working. :)

It's the large car and lawn mower batteries that I have all the trouble with. I can't remember how many of those I've replaced, but it's been a lot. :(

How many of you rotate your tires and how often? To be honest,I have never dont that, but, will start doing it as its not a big deal and maybe I will get more life out of them. Dealer wanted $20 which was fair, but,I declined. That $20 can be used for around 1/2 tank of gas or roughly one week of driving.:grin2:

Last month I finally replaced my original Hankooks with 25,500 miles on them. Never rotated. 8/32" Rear, 6/32" Front tread remaining. I guess I could have rotated them every 10K miles for 20 bucks a pop and now have 7/32" on all four but what was the point on those ***** tires.

BTW, I am practically giving them away on CraigsList. I have had one caller on them and advised them against running them in the winter. Lost that sale. Should have just let the dealer keep them.

I think I will rotate my WRG3's though every year at inspection. If I can keep the tread depth balanced on all four it may be worth the money.

rotate mine twice a year. In November the stock Hancraps and factory wheels come of and Continental Extreme Contact DWS mounted on MB Alpina (silver) Wheels (went down to 17 inch)go on. come mid April I change back. Discount Tire does this for free. When the stock tires get really bad, I will replace them and the Factory Rims with hopefully some really cool Chrome ones. Seen some on a black Sonata here in Omaha, but wife would not let me sit around and wait for them to come back to their car so I could find out where they got them.

Dangerous is putting it lightly, anyone out there who lives in the cold climate areas, and has the stock Hankook P 225-45-18 tires on their cars, please take them off for the winter. when the temps fall below 40 let alone below freezing and with any moisture, they turn into skis. I am a commercial driver with over 40 years of driving experience and have never had a situation like last winter with only a half inch of snow fall with the stock tires on the car. No control what so ever at 20mph. Get them things off your car ASAP.

#47 ·
Yeah, but not just winter. Those tires hydroplane like a jet ski, which for me makes them just as bad in the summer months. If you live somewhere where it never rains or snows, perfect tire.

Oil pan reseal number 5 for the Red Sled. First I have had to do by myself (no more warranty for this Dogg!)and it is not for the faint of heart!

The good news is I got it all back together and she is curing in the garage. Hopefully the temp won't affect the cure (it was 37 here today....Holy Heatwave)

Sad thing is this is probably the only repair I can do at the moment. Everything else requires a lift, specialty tools, and most importantly HEAT!!!

Amen to that brother. It is really coming down now. They are talking 12+ up here. The silver bullet is nice and cozy in the garage with a fresh bath. i will be driving the 4X4 for the foreseeable future.

Drive Safely!

Yeah,I see you are getting dumped on. I am all in for a white Christmas, but, would pass on a white Thanksgiving! You drive safe as well.
