My new Spyder headlights are installed, and working/looking great. My only gripe is that the DRL is still used...
I have the LED bar and the CCFL Halo's wired to the parking light circuit, which is where I want them, but when they're on (all the time), I don't want the bulb in the high beam housing on. Is there a resistor anywhere that I can pull out? Or any other way to disable that without buying the harness from Shark Racing?
The low voltage sent to the high beam bulb for the DRL is controlled by the BCM. I have read where some knowledgeable computer programmers have hacked the BCM firmware to turn off the DRL feature on other makes. And I believe that on some BMWs the dealer can, and will, turn them off . . . but the Hyundai software does not include this option. If you want them off, spend the $60 and get the harness-- (I think the harness is over priced and I am surprised some other Chinese company has not started offering these at half Shark's price.)
You CAN do some simple jumpering of the parking brake switch and kill the DRLs-- but this will cause the red dash "Brake" light to come on . . . if you do not mind the light--or if you can live with out it by removing the bulb, you would be good to go. Still the harness is just plug-n-play . . .
Basically what rick has said....if you have a Bi-Xenon projector...or a half decent low beam only projector just pull the high beams bulb out, problem solved. Or if you put in a seperate switch to make the car think its ebrake is on, that will work too. But youll obviously have the red symbol lit on your dash all the time
Maybe, but being military, the MP's are always checking out carss going on and off base, plus, I know I'd forget to put them back in before my next inspection lol.
When I suggested removing the bulb, I was referring to the bulb for the red warning light on the dash-- not removing your high beam bulbs. If you jumper, or alter the switch on the parking brake-- the DRLs go OFF. The DRLs are OFF when the parking break is set or when the switch on the parking break is activated, even when the car is in gear and moving. The only problem with this method is that when the DRLs go off that annoying red light on the dash for the parking break goes ON.
You could just unplug the highbeam harness from the bulb and leave it in. I did that for a while before I got the DRL delete harness. I rarely ever use the highbeams anyways, so it wasnt really an issue for me.
My suggestion is to spend the money and purchase the SR harness. You will not regret it. While the hi-beams are not used often, when needed there is no comparison. If nothing else they can force the other guy to dim the lights.
Ahhhh, I gotcha. It just seems like such a hassle. I'll try it with the park brake on tomorrow and see how annoying it is. Worst comes to worst, I'll order the DRL delete harness next month
A good reason NOT to mess with the parking brake switch to kill the DRL's is that by forcing the brake warning light to be on all the time, you are compromising your safety and that of your passengers. That light also serves as a warning of brake system failure as it indicates low brake fluid. If it's always stuck on because you shorted the wire, you won't have warning in the event of a serious fluid loss.
I wouldn't do this.

Not just low brake fluid - it also comes on in the event of a failure of the Electronic Brake Force Distribution function in the ABS unit, which could reduce brake effectiveness.
