I found another subtle difference between the 2013 and 2014 Sonata GLS. It’s in the fog light bezels. In 2014 they added a duct in the outer rim of the fog light bezels that runs thru the inside of the fascia and exits out the inside edge of the fenderwell about halfway up the tire. I don’t really know its actual purpose. I could make some wild speculations, but perhaps a tech might chime in and tell us.
I happened to be at advanced auto right next to a dealership,so,I decided to walk next door and snoop...
I did not check every single car, but,I only saw one car with these ducts. Even a 2015 Sonata SE did not have them,so,now,I am really curious why some cars have them while most do not. What is this,a _75ption???
Hmmm. Very interesting. Now MY curiosity is aroused. So you really don't have those on your 2014 GLS?
I had bought a pair of those chrome bezel covers back when I bought the fogs, and was curious how they would look. When I finished installing the lights, I stuck one of them on temporarily with a couple little pieces of rope putty and snapped a few pictures. I didn't really care for them once I saw it in place. It fit perfect over the bezel, but it also covered that vent up. I took it back off, but one nice day I'm going to stick them both on and take some pics, and get some other opinions. At present my mind is set to get rid of them.
My Limited has them too.
(Better aerodynamics to reduce air pressure difference in front of the tires[?] make the front end ride lower at high speeds[?] cool the tires?)
Any other ideas?
Thanks for the pics Danny. The ducts are only $12 apiece online.Tomorrow,I will call dealer for a price as they have a coupon for 15% off parts. Somehow,I doubt the dealer price will be comparable to that of the online prices. We shall see. Also,I would rather put them in myself rather than take a chance on someone carelessly yanking on teh bumper or the flaps installing them...:beathorse:

It's hard to believe the ducts are an add-on option. I would go after the dealer to give those to you for nothing. Just don't sound right to me. At least they are cheap. You may be better off to buy them and save yourself the headache of trying to argue with the dealer.
But then, you did say your car didn't come with the side mirror lights too, so perhaps that is an option. I'd like to see those ducts listed on the options list of a new car though just to find out if they are an option. You should be able to put them on thru the bottom without pulling the fascia. Good luck...
Hmmmmm,I do not know, some members have the vents and some do not, that makes me believe it is an option. Also,my fender wheel liners do not have the cut out for the vent,so,I will have to do that to.
OK, since your wheel liners aren't cut out, that makes me believe they are optional. Good enough. I think your doing the right thing by adding them. I would do the same.
Dealer price is $15 and will have then today from their warehouse. Going to try and use their 15% discount, but, they must install it for that. I will not let them though. Even paying full price is a few bucks cheaper that the price forum members get thru HyundaiandKiaParts.com with their 10% discount due to shipping.
Ha,Dealer would only give me 10% which worked out to be 5 bucks cheaper than the HyundaiKiaParts.com.
Installed them this afternoon. Was able to get this done by just pulling the wheel liner away from the fascia. A little tight, but, over all not that bad..I feel better doing this as the back of the headlights and fogs will not get water and debris blown all over them in bad weather driving.:cat:
Good information on this thread. I've been looking for a way to use the cut outs (no fogs 12 GLS) to duct air to my brakes or even just my tires at the track. I cooked the right front by the end of the day at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway. The track is mostly left turns and I had no camber in the front. After 140+ miles the outer edge was down to the cords. This nifty little vent may have actually cooled the tire enough to last longer.
On a side note, if you have considered it, a stiffer rear sway bar makes a very noticeable difference. I have the red from J. Craft. Around $250 ebay.
Rear sway bar is on my list, possibly this winter. What size sway bar are you using? Do you have the air ducts already?
