Replacing the trans oil temp sensor.

After 4 trips to the dealership over the last 6 months and no codes or the ability to "recreate the issue" of my rough shift from 2nd to 3rd, I've decided to replace the TTS myself. My sonata is out of warranty since I am the second owner and it has over 60k miles on it. I have access to a lift and tools so no issue there.

I have the ATF fluid, and I just ordered the sensor. However, i'm having some issue finding the replacement gaskets to the trans oil pan and top fill nut. Anyone have the part numbers for those? I've had no luck with the TSB information and repair manual that was posted.

Honestly, I would reuse them, especially the top fill nut. If your doing the sensor only, its pretty simple. If your doing it the right way with the new harness, then the valve body must come out and it is a little pain in the a**. if you have a subframe, like a older 2011, well, times that by 2.

IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN... PM ME!!!!

Have you had the transmission's adaptive values reset? No codes huh.... find someone with a Snap-on Solus ultra with 13.2+ or a verus with 13.2+ software. full support for enhanced data and code's for our car.

Is there an actual gasket for the side pan? I wouldnt be surprised if it isnt some kind of RTV like the oil pan.

sbr711 would be the person to ask since he has probably done a few of these.

wasn't there an issue with the trany shift solenoid?

Possibly. Like I said, I've been to the dealership 4 times for this issue. It's somewhat random when it occurs. The best way to describe it would be like in a manual car, someone was a bit fast on the clutch and let it out too quick, causing a speed surge that jerks your head back a bit. None of the other gears have this issue, only 2nd-3rd, and only on occasion. It is worst during the winter. The first time it shifts from 2-3 it is very harsh sometimes with an rpm flare.

I've had them update the software on the torque converter and I would assume that they would need to reset the shift curve.

I need to change the trany fluid anyway to I decided I might as well try replacing the sensor while I'm at it since it was only $25 to see if it fixes my issue. My father is a certified master Mercedes Benz tech at a local dealership (but he lives an hour away) so I don't think we will have any issue replacing it.

Hi JJ. What year is your Sonata?

Get you trany oil changed and tell them to back date the freaking receipt does not have to be changed by Hyundai. Hyundai has more then enough money. Why should you have to pay for this crap! just call the advisor and ask him to look up the TSB # i posted and ask him or his manager if this applies to your car. I dont know if the TSB calls for a replacement or a reprogram so you should at the very least call to see what is says. Just give him the TSB#.

If you are going to do the temp sensor & change the fluid if the Solenoid is accessible i would definitely do it. Also there is a Hyundai tech on here and he is very knowledgeable if you can find him and send him a pm he is very helpful. his name is sbr711. Good luck with all of this and keep us updated..

You all are getting ahead of yourselves. There are multiple solenoids and multiple codes. If you car does not have a code then it is pointless to mention anything. I would take it to another dealer and have them check it. You can replace the sensor, it will probably fix it. But if it is the harness, then you have to take it all back apart. You can buy all the solenoids and replace all those, but your just wasting your money.

To answer your original question, the gasket you need is # 45283-3b010

Besides, the sensor may come integrated with the harness now, so you have to take the valve body out.

Just contact your dealer for the right parts.

I told you to PM and save all this confusion, oh well.

If i remember right the TSB said hard shifting without any trouble codes. and it was for 2011-13. Hard shifting was a common issue with the 2011.

And him telling you to replace the fluid @60k is bull. It says in manual it is good up till 100k.
And if the transmission dies at 101k due to burnt fluid, do you think Hyundai is going to help him? No ATF is good for that long, I don't care what the manual says.

It won't be burnt, he changed it @100k. It's in the manual, so Hyundai should cover it.

Agreed, it should be changed @60k, it's the run-around I don't. The warranty is up to 100k even if he did or didn't change it. This issue in my opinion should all be warranty.

Good luck, good night.

Usual give away for trans fluid temp sensor is harsh shift into "R" from "P" and harsh shift into "D" from "N"

Trans temp sensor replacement as called in the TSB for 0711/0712/0713 is kinda goofy.. they give number for sensor by itself, and number for the internal wire harness,, but the internal wire harness comes with ATF temp sensor as an integrated part of the harness..

We just replace the harness as directed in TSB and refill ATF..

Now for the concern over gasket on side pan --

Seems the full frame (early) has the steel pan and uses RTV... The new 1/2 frame (wide open easy to R&R) pan is plastic,, the plastic pan uses a rubber gasket in groove like a cam cover gasket.. make sure rail on trans case is free of dirt/corrosion..

If 1/2 frame.. cake walk, all open to work.......... early full frame is major PIA with a lot of select words spoken when doing job.

Re-flash...... NO / NOPE / NADA... old 0748 DTC logic program 3yr ago as recall,, some failed to complete and got PCM replace as program started and fail completion,, not able to recover some of the PCM.. big PIA for us

We keep couple harness in stock, we get run on them once in a while, seem to have slowed down, though neighbor did 1 earlier this week on Santa Fe with the 6 speeder

Hi SBR711. Wasn't there a bulletin for the hard shift issue or am i losing my mind as usual?

I appreciate you keeping up with the transmission discussion, I am also searching and reading about them. My 2011 sonata seems to be having the same issue, I believe I saw you commenting on the other post with the guy who has his 2yo daughter helping him 😅 anyways, I am gonna verify if the harness of the temp sensor comes along with the sensor. As I read few post before this, someone said they have different part # but yet they are integrated. I watched several videos on how to replace this God **** harness and it does require to pull the valve body, since bracket for harness is attached from the back of valve body, I was even asking on the 2yo person with daughter about why dont I just get a whole used valve body with a harness from junkyard with low mileage and replace mine. Worst thing I would fear is if I change my harness only and problem remains, I would have to then redo everything and get the stupid valve body out. Right? I mean harness is like 144 usd here and sensor is 31 usd so might spend a little more and get a whole valve body. Why not right?
