Your Sonata annoyances

OK, I've had my Sonata for 8 weeks, 4,300 miles. Overall I love the car, but there are some annoyances.

1 - There's no way to move through XM radio presets using steering wheel radio controls. You can use the up & down arrows for AM/FM presets, but no way to do this for XM from the wheel. Apparently those in Canada are able to do this, but not in the US. I spend over 2hrs/day driving, so this is HIGHLY FREAKING ANNOYING to me, and takes away much of the benefits of steering wheel controls. Oh, and I wish there was a mute button, my last car had that and I used it often.

2 - Can't operate power windows with key in Accessory mode. You have to put the key in the On position. Dumb.

3 - Doors relock after 30 seconds if you don't open one of them. REEEALY don't like this one!

4 - TPMS sucks. My last car allowed me to see individual readings of all 4 wheels, and I could top off any wheel to keep them all equal. The Sonata version of TPMS does what? Gives you an idiot light if a wheel is out of range, then you have to go figure out which one. If you want to know what your wheel readings are besides, go get your tire gauge, because TPMS won't tell you.

These are my annoyances. What are yours?

For number 1 you can move thru presets with the steering wheel controls and I'm from the US. You preset it and go to it via the mode button or the xm button and us the up down for the fm and am control on the steering wheel. I am not sure why you can't us it.

And the mute you hold a button which I believe it's the mode button. But I can remember. Or maybe it turns it off. Ahh I can't remember.

It seems this functionality changed on the 2012 models. There's another thread about it. When I use the up/dpwn on the wheel, it just goes to the next numerical XM station, eg 76 to 77, not what is preset.

It turns it of after a couple second delay. Easier to just reach over and turn the radio off. A mute button is so much nicer.

Satellite radio is a waste of money for me, so I never got into it and cannot really comment, but when I had the free subscription when I first bought the car I didn't notice anything like you mentioned.

The TPMS does suck compared to other implementations, but I guess Hyundai had to save money somewhere, right?

It is simple enough to put the key into the "On" position without starting the car, which then allows you to use the windows - and the windows do operate for a short period of time after the car is off in case you forgot to put the windows back up. I'm not sure why this is an issue, but to each his own..

Your item 3 is the only thing I'll disagree with outright. That is an excellent safety feature! Honestly, how hard is it to hit the unlock button, anyway? It is nice to know that if I were to accidentally unlock the car, much in the same way someone is butt-dialed, that the car will re-lock itself automatically.

The clutch!!! (Though most of you know nothing about that lol)

Steering is a tad overboosted for my taste, but that is being really nit-picky.

I've never had a pocket-button-unlock event in 18 years of remotes. I just don't see how relock is a "feature", but I guess it's personal preference.

1 - Creaking sound coming from the roof (not all Sonata's have this).
2 - iPod functionality and navigation. Very rudimentary.
3 - Bluelink. Part of the reason I bought the car but I only used it until my free subscription ran out.
4 - Visibility. Everything in front of me is fine but side windows have some blind spots. The Sonata replaced a Mazda Tribute and it was way easier to see over my shoulder than in the Sonata. Maybe I'm spoiled.
5 - Steering wheel material. I've scratched it with my fingernails two or three times and it leaves cut marks.
6 - Seatbelt. My seatbelt cuts into the material of my leather/cloth SE seats near my left hip.
7 - Backup camera. Takes 10 seconds to come on, I'm usually backed out of the driveway already before the thing comes on.

That's all I can think of now. Despite the above, I still love this car.

Me, too. Sonata replaced an Infiniti J-30 that I'd driven for close to seven years. The windows just seem really high, and the panel between front and passenger is always in my way when I look to the left.

Just takes some getting used to, I know. I was probably spoiled with my old car too (my Hyundai dealer told me those things sold for close to $50,000 in 1997... Crazy!).
