Question 2012 - Radio sound level drops and speaker buzz

I was wondering if anyone has the same issues im having with my new 2012 ltd.

First the sound level drops after I turn the radio on.. its like there is a limitter on it. If I turn the car on with the radio at 20, within a matter of seconds the sound drops down.

Another problem Im having is with certain talk stations there is a buzzing/static coming from the speakers as if there is too much mids. Ive dropped the mids but it still doesnt help. Ive noticed this on some music too. My 2000 elantra never had this problem and neither does my wifes 2008 santa fe. Are these just really shty speakers or should I take it the dealer?

Ever find the solution to this? Was it just a new radio unit? My just bought 2012 is doing the exact same thing.

There is a setting on your radio to automatically adjust sound as the cabin noise changes. The dealer turned it off for me when he showed me the car - it's in the radio setup. Maybe you need to do that. Check your manual on how to adjust.

The radio has settings for high, medium, low, and off. I tried changing this and it didn't make a difference. I'll check again, maybe it's stuck on? Everything works ok, but especially when running bluetooth audio feed, it sounds like an input is too hot and distorts the front speakers. I tried turning down the volume from my phone and raising the car volume, but it didn't effect the distortion amount.

Turned off bluetooth control on my phone so it can't stop and start songs, and it didn't help. XM doesn't have the problem, the FM radio might have it slightly, the bluetooth stream it's bad. I am going to try the aux plug and see if it does the same thing to try and pinpoint the problem.

You don't mention what series radio you have? GLS, Limited, Nav????
If the talk radio you listen to is on AM it's probably a problem with the antenna thats located on the rear window.... very few cars with this type antenna will give you good AM reception unless it's a powerfull AM station. The sound problem is a mystery.........Take it in for warranty work. My Limited with Nav. works great but I do have some AM reception problems on weak stations that produce noise.

There have been more than a few warranty claims on the various Sonata radios. If you aren't happy with the operation of yours, make an appointment with the dealer. You have a 36 month / 36,000 mile audio warranty, why not use it?

It's an SE turbo, standard factory radio. After testing, the sound is clear on AM/FM/XM/USB/and Aux. It's only bluetooth streaming that gets a distortion, and it's only in high frequencies. No EQ's are on with my phone. I'm going to do some more tests, maybe I've overlooked something.

Is the 36,000 mile warranty an indication that Hyundai isn't too proud of their radio system? The "bumper to bumper" warranty is 60,000 miles. After buying the car, I was surprised to see the difference.

Garage
Blutooth will never be as clear as uncompressed media - especially when streaming already compressed files. Welcome to the world of massive audio quality degradation in the name of portability.
