How often to do oil change?

I know this should be in the manual but i keep forgeting to look at it. I drive around 250-300 miles a month, i got my car on July 15th, 2012 and so far have around 870 miles on it. I believe i have to change oil at around 3.5K so i won't reach that point any time soon. So i am thinking there's got to be some time limit to how long i can go without a oil change.

Should i just change it every 3-4 months?

Man, you barely drive the thing. I put 870 miles on in less than 2 weeks!! I got mine on May 15, 2011 on have over 10,000 miles.

To answer your question: change the oil every 3 months. Oil can go bad and separate, which will cause issues for your engine.

My dealership said the oil has to be changed ever 6000km (about 3500miles) or 6 months, which ever comes first.

Section 7, page 7 of my manual: Normal Schedule:
Replace engine oil and filter;
7,500 miles (12,000 Km) or 6 months
whichever occurs first.

You could use a synthetic and do yearly changes.

7500 mile with synthetic like mobile 1, penzoil platinum, castrol edge spt, valvoline ashland synpower. Follow manufacturer spec to retain warranty.

Conventional quaker state every 4 month 4000 mile until 7,000 mile on odo before switch to synthetic.

Conventional every 7500 will result in sludge in your engine.
Amsoil, redline, Neo and Eneos are too expensive for this car.

That all depends on the use of the car. I drive 80-100 miles a day. The majority cruising at 80mph on the highway. I can easily wait to change at 7500 mile intervals. I checked my oil and it still looks great even after 6,500 miles since my last change. However, someone that drives more in the city with stop and go...then yes. They shouldn't go that long and that is why there are two different change intervals listed. Severe and non-severe.

If you said this back in the 80's or 90's I would have completely agreed. But oil is so much better now than back then.

Some people are like Slinkies....not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

I got 41K on my 2011 already, mostly highway.

Every 7-8000 miles with Pennzoil Plat. or Ultra synthetic, and OEM filter.
Works out to 3 times/year.
