I have Blue Link in the 2012 Sonata. It was one of the reasons I decided on the Sonata over the Fusion, despite Sync having such a good reputation.

My thoughts and experiences so far:

1. POI SEARCH SUCKS. Unless you are looking for the closest McDonald's or the nearest Exxon gas station, good luck finding some of the less common places. I'd rather take my eyes off the road and search the Google Maps app and then just punch the address into the car's navigation system. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, but I'm fairly disappointed that it doesn't find what I'm looking for. It is cool, however, that, IF it finds the place you're looking for, it will automatically put it into your car's navigation system.

2. BLUE LINK APPLICATION IS OK. Very cool feature to lock / unlock the doors from your phone or the Internet, but I'm a little disappointed that remote start doesn't work. The website says "late availability" and that the "vehicle must be equipped with push button start" (which mine is). But an email to Hyundai said I should "check to see if there are any updates available" for my phone and that they are "investigating this issue." If anybody knows if / when this will start working, I'd love to know. For the record, the app through T-Mobile has only two stars as a lot of people are having blank black screen issues.

3. COLLISION AND MONTHLY VEHICLE REPORT. Obviously I hope to never have to experience how the collision feature or stolen vehicle feature works, but I don't have children so I don't need a curfew, or speed, or geo-fence feature. I'm anxious to see what the monthly vehicle feature is all about, but apparently I can't do this until after 30 days.

Overall, I'm disappointed. Some of you may have had better experiences. Depending on how things go over the next six months, I may be dropping the feature completely.

This was one of the reason I decided to pull the trigger on a 2011 last month, and not wait for a 2012. I was not impressed with blue link and panoramic sunroofs. Plus you have to pay for blue link as well, I'd rather save that money and pay for satellite radio. Just my opinion.

Been playing with Limited without nav and seems to find obscure locations around here without and problem if i speak the address. finds locations much quicker than ive seen in the demo videos people have posted online. Still havent got to use it much yet though. Ill post more when I do. PRobably jsut me but I havent figured out how to cancel out of it if I chane my mind. I know how to cancel a current navigation but not cancel if im just in bluelink

I bought the 2011 last month also but it was totalled so I went for 2012. I am happy with the upgrade

I have the Limited with NO NAV... the blue link turn by turn navigation is worth it all by it self. I love it...

As far as the iphone app goes it was the # 2 most important reason i got the car. It is absolutely unusable..... honestly a complete POS. It somewhat worked when i got it got it for unlocking the car (no remote start here either) and also the "car finder" but now, when i went i send commands to the car nothing happens, and the car finder always finds the car in the same exact spot... about 10 miles from my house in a neighborhood i've never been to, even though i see the car in my driveway.

I think the POI database will be based on where you are and how mapped your city is. I have a 2011 Sonata but wiith navigation and I notice that the maps are about 2 years behind and so are the POI. So any new stores that opended in the past 2 years won't be in the system. But I noticed that with TomTom it is also about a year behind in POI but more up to date on the streets and maps than the Hyundai system. A bigger city like NY will be better mapped than a smaller city.

Hey yall, first time here at Hyundai-Forums. My brother is looking to buy the 2012 Sonata Turbo and he didn't know if Blue Link would be useful. I drive a 2011 Ford Mustang with Sync and no Nav. Sometimes I have trouble getting it to understand me. Recently Sync added the live operator option which I think is heaven-sent. In addition to Ford's Sync enabled cars, I've been telling my brother to look at GM's OnStar equipped cars as well. Then I decided to find out how Blue Link compared with rest of the competition. They definitely have a tone of features compared to the rest.

schabj3 - When you are having trouble with POI searching for less common places, do you get bad POI results or does it not understand what you were saying? Sync is not very good with addresses and I can never get it to understand simple POI names like 'Havertys' or 'Genghis Grill' using their automated service. How quick is Blue Link's confirmation of your request? Once I get Sync to understand what I'm saying, most of the time it gets me that one location I'm looking for.

1slomofo - That 'car finder' feature telling you your car is somewhere else is SCARY! I'm glad I don't have that in my car Does it work anywhere else?

Souks - Does your 2011 Sonata have Blue Link? My brother can't seem to find any 2011 models with Blue Link. Sometimes I think he wants this geeky phone navigation more than the car itself!

Anybody else have good or bad experiences with Blue Link. Your help is much appreciated.

2011's DO NOT have blue link. The 2012 is the first car ever to have it. You cannot add it aftermarket at this time. It has no problem understanding because behind the computer voice is a person actualty listening to you and they correct it. I love it. The nav on it seems to be right on and I love the little things like weather and gas station prices too.

Just curious, how many owners will continue to pay for this service?

Thank you ChuckNorris! Your review gives me confidence in blue link.

Nephrodoc - I wonder the same: is blue link worth the price?

I'd probably pay 79 but not more unless performance changes.

As for the other question, it is not a matter of not understanding because the computer usually reads back exactly what I say but then says 'we are unable to locate.'
