Took the 2.0t in for it's first oil change this past weekend and heard a strange sound just as I was turning into the dealer. They were supposed to check out the odd rattling noise I've been having on cold starts, but I was then informed that my passenger side front inner fender well was smashed up and had been rubbing on the wheel. They said I must have hit something and the clip broke and the piece was shredded from rubbing on the tire, which is odd since neither my wife nor myself recall hitting anything with it, but maybe we caught a rock just right (so far we aren't having a lot of luck with this car). Anywho, just wondering if anyone has any experience replacing this? From what I can tell it's just a bunch of the plastic plugs holding it on, however the dealer wants to charge me 1.5 hours of work to do it? The plastic piece itself is $110. We're also getting a noticeable rattling on the car, which I'm hoping is just that loose front piece catching the wind.

I had my driver side replaced for $124 parts and labour, was charged 0.5 hours labour as it took less than 15 minutes to complete.

My fault on this one. Was installing the LED fog DRL on the first night without a ramp and couldn't sucessfully do the job. I had to destroy 1 of the clip taking it out so decided to not put any in as it was a short drive to the auto store for ramps. It looked like it was held in tighthly under the lip so took the gamble. A gamble that failed as half way back heard a rubbing noise, pulled off as soon as possible but at that point heard a big clunck. Went out to look and it ripped the cover right off and was just hanging on by a small piece.

The clip that holds it in is located right below the bumper and with the bumper being so low to the ground, there is a possibility that maybe you rubbed the clips on a parking curb and broke one and over time that air going under lossened it up. One way to tell is look under the painted bumper to see if it has any scratch marks. If its clean then you might be able to go after them for warranty work. There was another thread where people have had it replaced under warranty. But if the bumper is scratched up, there is a chance the clips were loosened or damaged from a impact.
