Just had my first oil change. Received an e-mail coupon from Hyunda.com with my closest dealer listing and oil change for $25.

Was quick and easy.

Just got an oil & filter change at the Hyundai dealer (yes today is Sunday). Paid $9.95 for 5 qts "Mobil Clean Motor Oil", new filter and oil plug gasket.

Yes, parts and labor for $9.95.

They losing maybe $15 per oil change, plus wages to the tech to be paid for the oil change... they likely out $25 per car that comes through the door for that....

Sooooooo, we gonna need to push hard for up sales... easy stuff is light bulbs, wipers, visual of belts/odometer for timing belt, coolant, ATF, or other "gravy" ticket stuff to recover the $25 oil change loss...

For fun, ask them if they still paying the tech to do the oil change

Their loss = my gain.

The price is just for March. I figure that they figure it's a cheap way to get you on their (e)mailing list for future work.

If they have a good service department with good advisors and the customers leave happy, you loose $25 this time but you may get repeat business that you wouldn't get otherwise. So it may pay off for them or cost them I know there are people who just jump around from deal to deal and will never come back to this dealer ever but hey some people might make them their dealer from now on if they are treated right this time.

My dealer charges $40 Canadian (we pay more for everything) but it's the cheapest out of everyone. He says they don't make much on oil changes. Mr. Lube charges $80 for a oil change (that's absolutly crazy). You should see the lineups there everyday. I thought they were $50 like everyone else till my brother went there cause of a $20 coupon and noticed $80 is regular price.

LOL, we charge 30 for a oil change with premium oil (penzoil) and like 24.99 for a value line type oil change.

sounds like/similar to what the other 'H' manufacturer would do. they would have Ho*** Appreciation Day. they would notify you by mail and you would call and set up an appt with service. they would perform a 125+ point inspection for nothing. they would remove a wheel, both front and rear to check brakes, all fluids and a bunch of other stuff. this was free. but, you had to have an appt as the slots filled within hours of the mailings. they would provide hotdogs, chips, drinks, popcorn, donuts, balloons for the kiddies. magician would be on hand..etc. what did they gain...

SERVICE APPTS for work needed. it was a great way for them to increase their work loads! i took advantage of this every year for both of my cars. some things i would change out myslef....other's i'd have them do it. they'd also give out free gifts along with it. got frisbees, coolers, flashilghts, detail car care kits, free oil change coupons. still got the flashlight in my sonata!

sorta wish Hyundai would do this! always good for a free lunch!

Yeah im not sure why we canadians get screwed for everything. Even with the dollar close to par with us dollar we still pay 10 - 25% more for everything. Cars, parts, food etc. When i went to vegas last year was shocked that a big mac was like a dollar and a half cheaper than it was in canada.

As for filters wonder if shark can bundle up oil filters it must be dirt cheap compared to dealers like the cabin air filter.
