Well, I drove OVER a landscaping rock (don't ask!). And put a huge dent/tear in the front bumper cover as I tried to back out off the rock And no "it won't buff right out"
This one will be out-of-pocket fix!
Is the dealership the only place to get the bumper cover? Has anyone replaced their bumper DIY?
Thanks

ps these are really bad cars as they would need body work when you drive over a rock (As per another post)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fear24 is an unknown quantity at this point
it's the material of the cover. both my '01 accord and '03 odyssey had issues with the bumpers and rocks (usually while camping).

So it's the car's fault that you drove over a landscaping rock? Yeah, don't think so.

In any case, you would go to a body shop and not the dealer to get the new fender, and the fenders come unpainted so you would either need to do that yourself or pay for the body shop to do it. The fender itself is around $450 if I recall correctly. Painting prices will vary from place to place, but I would bet on $300 to start.

Clearly the sarcasm in my post didn't make it past my keyboard and on to your screen.

My apologies then! We've had a couple of trolls on here recently, so I guess I was in defense mode.

At any rate, it will be costly, as I indicated. If you do get it replaced and painted, be sure to go to a place with computer matching for paint, as some of the Sonata's paints are new to this generation and weren't released commercially as of late last year. I also suggest getting a clear bra put on your car afterwards. It will help protect the paint finish and is hardly noticeable. I put one on mine (though I had a few rock dings when I did it, so touch up paint prior to application is a good idea if that is the case). I haven't had a problem since, and most of my miles come on rural interstate where rocks come flying at my car constantly.

The bumper is pretty easy to remove and install. I am not sure how much you'll be saving by installing it your self? You would need to bring it to a body shop to have it painted, they aren't sold in color. Also the paint will be more delicate on a freshly painted bumper so you really need to be careful installing it. Unless you buy a used one that is already in your color. But over all I agree with Stargate, bring it to a body shop and have them take care of it, chalk it up to a lesson learned.

I have a couple of near perfect bumpers at my shop, tabs are broken, can be fixed easily, silver one and white one. In Orlando let me know if you want to save some dough.

I just had to replace mine two weeks ago after I hit a dog on my way to work. It snapped right in the middle. Total cost at a local body shop was about $1250. That also included the black plastic that looks like a small grille. Price might be different as mine was a Limited with the Pearl White paint.

Into every man's life a time comes when he must get up and make something of himself. And when that time comes, I'm going to be well rested.
