Do we have to bring our Hyundai's to the dealership to simply update the GPS software? I understand that there may be a warranty issue but, I was wondering if there was a way we could download a .pak file (or something of the sorts) and upload it to the unit.

I've searched the web on this, but was unable to find exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you

Mapnsoft.com is the website of the company that does the map software for Hyundai. I just did a search for updates for the 2011 Sonata and this is what I got.....

KN **v3.0 North America Map Update for New Sonata - 4U02
**(Available at your local Hyundai Dealer Only) Contact Local Dealer** Yes
The strange thing is when the latest update first came out I saw it listed for sale on their website. Apparently, Hyundai didn't want them to do that and it was quickly removed.

To add to this, people in the other thread said it will cost you $200 to get the update and it has to be done at the dealer as the dealer needs to get a authentication code before the update starts.

The funny thing about all the GPS Update interest is that (AFAIK) no one can know what's changed/been added.

My software fails to recognize some key roads to use to go A to B, and in one example sends me from (A) 5 mi west to I-459, 5-6 mi south to I-65, 5 mi east back to Target B when I could have gone 10 mi A to B all on Hwy 119. If the Update takes me the direct Hwy 119 route that's when I'd get excited about paying $X hundred to upgrade - BUT you never know what you're getting.

Friends' Garmin software has done similar crazy routing so there's likely No one-time fix @ $X.

I wouldn't fret much over this Upgrade until you start missing targets for lack of data.
So far every address I've needed has been available.

The one thing I want to see fixed is the estimated travel time. I posted about the bug a year ago and even sent Mapnsoft a bug report. What happens is, any road that has a route designation automatically is calculated at highway speeds. As an example, Illinois 19 is Irving Park Road here in Chicago. The speed limit on many parts of it can be as low as 25MPH. Yet it's always calculated at 55MPH. The same thing happens with Harlem Ave, Illinois 43. This throws the time calculation way off.

I would gladly pay for an upgrade if I knew it was fixed. But they won't tell me. And actually, gladly is the wrong word. Since it's a major bug that other GPS software doesn't suffer, I wouldn't actually be glad. But I would still probably do it.

I'm hoping my city is updated. From what I can tell, it looks like the Hyundai map is from like 2008. It's missing entire residential communities that has been around since 2006. My handheld HP GPS from 2007 has these communities in them. I know POI will change as stores open and close at anytime. So far about 30% of the address I tried don't even exists on the Hyundai GPS.
