Hello everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me out here;

I've noticed that the image produced from the backup camera on my wife's 2011 Sonata is a bit hazy or out of focus, especially at night... Does anyone else have this issue? The lens is clean and mark free, so I'm wondering if it's just the overall camera quality in these vehicles or if something is wrong with ours in particular.

Thank you very much for any help.

-James

Noticed at night its hazzy too but when lighting is poor. I'm guessing due to the size of the camera it doesn't do too well in poor lighting situation. During the day it looks good. Even though it's a bit hazy it's still fully visible for me, so doesn't affect the useability of the camera.

While it isn't as good under poor lighting as it is in the daylight,

you might want to make sure the lens isn't dirty.

I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

Yeah, I was thinking it may have been dirty but I checked it last night to find it perfectly clean (I wiped it off just in case)... It seems sufficient during the day, if not a bit 'off', but at night it's especially bad... It reminds me a bit of when my G37 backing cam gets a drop of water on it, although it's not quite that bad. My wife has the car at work right now, but I'll try to get some example shots later.

My camera isn't blurry at all, but a couple issues have arisen that worry me:

1) A few times my camera has gone blue for an entire day. It will fix itself all of a sudden, so I assume this is just a software glitch?

2) Sometimes my camera will have a delayed response. It can take several seconds to engage, which depending on where I am can be a
real nuisance.

Has anyone experienced these same issues? Are they things I should take to the dealer for a warranty repair? I've never had a backup camera on my car before, so in all honesty I'm not sure if these are common occurences.

By the way...to avoid any doubt, I am absolutely in love with my Sonata. What an amazing car for the price point!!!

There is a problem with your camera, it shouldn't be doing that. Ours has never "gone blue" and it always comes on as soon as you put it in reverse. Sounds like you may have a connection problem or possibly a defective switch that activates the camera. I doubt that it's a software problem. I would take it in to have it fixed under warranty.

Thanks so much for the reply. It may be one of those things the dealer can't "see", but hopefully they know of a way to address the issue. Software is obviously not like a bolt than can just be tightened if it's loose.

Mine has gone blue too and had delay a couple of times. My dealer posted a thread on Hyundai's internal message boards, no response yet. Guess no one has really reported this issue to the dealer. He wanted to see if anyone heard of anything befoe ripping it apart to check things.

I did some looking around and this is what I found out. When it is blue if you open and then close the trunk it fixes it. So I'm thinking it's a connection problem in the trunk area. So as you drive around, hitting potholes and other bumps in the road it may loosen the connetion enough so when I slam the trunk closed it reseats itself. So to clearify the blue issue, the lines that assist you in parking are there and they turn with the wheel just no picture. It's like you disconect your satellite box from the TV and it goes blue cause there is no signal. That's why I'm thinking it's a connection issue. Cable wiggled loose enough that it's not getting video signal.
