I have an error code that indicates that my Shift Solenoid is bad. It's also saying that the speed sensor is bad. But as I've replaced the speed sensor 2 times already I'm finding that hard to believe. The guy at Auto Zone said that the it may be throwing the speed sensor error because of the Shift Solenoid.
I put the car in Reverse and step on the gas and it doesn't move, also the shifting isn't right. It shifts really hard after starting out. It feels like it starts out in second gear and then shifts to third but doesn't seem to get past that. So if I try to get up to say 55 the RPM's are really high.
Does anyone know if this is something that is really involved to change? I'm no great auto mechanic but I can do some stuff. Also any ideas on the price for a new Shift Solenoid? I tried to call the local Hyundai Dealer and they would only tell me that they really couldn't give me a price until I brought it in and had them run diagnostics. That's dealer lingo for "we want to charge you $80 to tell you that you need a new Shift Solenoid..." Something I already know. Just wondering how much I might be investing into getting this fixed. I mean it's a 2001 with 147K Miles on it. I don't want to put to much into it.
If anyone has any info on how much and how involved this is please let me know.
