Hi Everyone!

I am taking my 2002 Sonata to the dealer today to get [b]another interior door handle replaced. This will make the second handle where the chrome has peeled away. The first one was on the front passenger side, this one is on the rear, right passenger side. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this with the interior door handles? I see several postings regarding paint peeling from the exterior handles. Unfortunately this isn't covered under the warranty so I'm forking out about $50 to cover the cost. Overall I've been happy with my Sonata but I don't want to keep replacing door handles.

I bought a 2003 Sonata from Carmax 3 months ago and had them replace the driver's inside handle due to peeling (it was in serious need of replacement.) I can see a chip on the passenger side, but hope it stays small for awhile. Really like the car otherwise!

I have a 2002 and have no issues like that. If enough people have this problem maybe something can be done but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I am having the same problems in my 03. I found them used, but even then they are $35 a piece, and I fear that they will start to peel too.

I was thinking about taking all 4 off and peeling or sanding off the chrome paint and then spray painting them either silver or maybe black to match the interior. Any comments about that?

Painting would cure your problem and is probably the best solution. Other than that I would say your best bet would be to get a set of the stick on chrome inlays and see if they last longer.

I think I read somewhere that you can get them replaced for free at a dealer because it's a safety hazard. Our Sonata does the same thing and we need to go back to get them replaced again.

5yr/60 item,, and most all chassis is out of warranty. There is recall for short production period..

From my personal experience, I have to disagree.

I had this fixed free of charge by a dealership around the 85,000 mile mark. It is a safety issue, and there is a recall.
