Does anyone know how to remove the woodgrain top on the center console of a 2002 Sonata LX? Does the shifter and the surrounding brushed aluminum have to be removed before removing the woodgrain and how do they come off? I thought maybe with a good tug it would pop off but pulled and pulled to no avail. If the radio facia has to be removed to remove the center console how does that come off? Seems I read all it takes to remove that is to pull it off but again it really seems to like where it is at. I give up, any help would be appreciated.

Well I headed out to the garage and made a noble attempt at removing the top of the center console. From another post I found out the woodgrain facia on the radio comes off with a good solid pull. Ok, one piece off now for the center console. Tugged on the back half of the woodgrain (and I do mean tugged!!) ehind the e-brake and sure enough that pulled off. (the woodgrain is divided into two sections, front and back) Now the front half is held on with two screws toward the back (and hidden under the piece I just pulled off) and clips to the front. Remove the screws and again tug on the front and that too will now come off. Mission accomplished! Scoured everything up, waxed it and put it back on and looks great! (I hate that grame that builds up in the cracks and crevices!)

Thanks for the tip! I also like to keep this area clean.
