Anti Theft (disabling)

I'm in NY and my daughter is in Florida, she has a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that apparently has an intermittent VATS problem. The previous owner fitted it with an after market key fob. If she doesn't use the fob and unlocks the doors with the key it starts regularly...but occasionally the vats still kicks in and the car won't start.

Would like to look into have the VATS disabled and was wondering if any of you folks have experience with the Hyundai VATS? Is this a common flash, is the VATS it in the PCM or BCM in the Hyundai?

Thanks

Thanks

The car won't even turn over. On one occasion a mechanic was in the area and used the key to open all of the doors and the car started. I assume he did a VATS relearn, he may have told her it had something to do with an aftermarket key fob she had.

I'm familiar with GM Passkey and how it works via the BCM. Have no idea how the Hyundai VATS works (PCM or BCM) and if it can be by-passed (resistor) or disabled via flashing.

BTW: The car is automatic.

After market VATS - you can't get the schematic from Hyundai. You need to know what is installed there first. Most likely your daughter cannot do anything with a "schematic" anyway.

Diagrams for neutral switch or brake switch/lights is what you can get from Hyundai.

I am asking for an OEM wiring diagram not an aftermarket one. I simply want to know if the car uses a BCM or a combination of BCM and PCM to control the security system so I can understand the system then take it from there.

This is one of the reasons I discouraged her from buying a Korean car in the first place..there really isn't any technical support for them online. Just went through a similar VATS (no start) situation with a 2003 Chevy Cavalier and with a supplied forum diagram was able to narrow it down to a power line break.

I can actually get wiring diagrams for most American cars on the Autozone web site in the help section.

Thanks anyway

I have the anti-theft diagram for the 2000 model, but I am not sure if I am allowed to post it here, and via personal message I cannot seem to attach a file. It is not connected to the PCM at all, it's stand-alone.
I'll send a PM with a suggestion, since the "important" part is already posted above.

If its equipped with a factory alarm the it can be disarmed by grounding the Green/Black wire on pin 3 of the 12 pin connector on the ETACM (Electronic Time & Alarm Control Module) which is attached to the fusebox below the fuses.

Test any wire before grounding. With a Digital volt meter, attach one lead to ground and the other lead to the wire. Set the Volt Meter to DC Volts. The meter should read a voltage. Unlock the door with the key, the voltage should drop to 0 temporarily. IF NOT you have the wrong wire.
