Question Blew Timing Belt, Bent Valves

Ok, I'll skip all the mumbo jumbo about how I ended up in the situation I'm in and get right to the question I have for you all.

So, I have 6 bent valves and need to know if anyone knows if the valves will require adjustment or if they're hydraulic or what. The Haynes isn't helpful.....the Chilton's is even less helpful.....and my father-in-law (mechanic for over 20 years) can't tell if we can just replace the valves using a valve spring compressor and let the hydraulic lifters set the pitch of the valves or if they will require those little cup things (can't remember for the life of me what they're called, they come in different sizes and set the pitch of the valves).

I will post pictures and more on the story once the thread gets going, sorry to be impersonal at the moment, just trying to get the question out there.

The Delta engines have hydraulic lifters operated directly by the camshaft lobes without rockers inbetween. No shims needed.

i would be sending the head out to a specific workshop that rebuilds heads,

chances are if you broken a belt, you would damaged almost all the valves,
no point only doing 6, putting to gether to find you have to pull it all apart to replace another 6 valves

also its a great chance to have the head machined ready for the new head gasket

Thanks guys this helps a lot. I won't be sending it off to be machined because its not worth the money and my father in law can machine them in his friends shop if the heads ended up warping and needed resurfacing. We looked at them a little closer today and found that there's actually 6 exhaust and 2 intake valves that ended up bent. We checked the others quite thoroughly so I'm pretty sure we won't run into any surprises as far as finding more bent ones.

Thanks again,

-Jake

02Sonata0305..What was end result??

Have a similar issue with my '02 Santa Fe.
I am looking at repairing OR replacing heads vs. replacement engine vs. replacement vehicle.

Just curious, how many miles did the engine have before the belt broke?
