I cannot see any visible signs of rust or deterioration so I take some comfort in that but I have never honestly started beating on the frame with a hammer.
My 99 had the right lower control arm separate from the subframe while driving at 45mph or so. Thankfully it was the right side and it simply rammed the tire into the back of the wheelwell sideways breaking the cv axle, bending a few other things and just veered to a stop at the side of the road.
This happened a few years ago, before hyundai sent out the recall. I had to pay the $1200 bill out of pocket for a junkyard subframe, all the related parts that were bent, and labor.
I sent in for reimbursement after hyundai sent out the recall letter and only got $750 back after 2-3 months of them not accepting this or that due to one reason or another. Basically, they only covered the subframe replacement and not the collateral damage of everything else breaking. I was ticked off, but i was tired of dealing with them.
