No nobody has done this nor do they need to. I say this cause only a trans rebuild shop will know if there really is a filter in there. The drain plug is the filter as it has a magnet that picks up particle along the way. It works ok I guess even though our tranny fluid gets black every 30k miles.
Just drain it and get 5 qt of hyundai spIII or equivilant.

After some research it appears that the 2002 Sonata does NOT have an external tranny filter like the 1998-2001. Has anyone taken apart their transmission and gotten to the internal filter? Has anyone taken off the tranny pan that is on the front side of the transmission, is it possibly underneath the pan? Thanks.
