Is there a way to disable the horn on a Tiburon remote start/keyless entry? My neighbor just got a new Tiburon and now wakes me up every morning at 5 something. I'd rather approach the problem with a solution than with a complaint, since of course they are fond of their new car.

Update:

I went to my local dealer, bought the remote for 86.00, one of the guys walked out to my car with me, pulled a couple of wires down from under the dash on the driver's side, hooked up to the remote somehow and it was done! No charge for programming, just $86.00 for the remote! I can't believe that some dealers charge for programming a remote!

On another forum, somebody mentioned that they had pretty badly limited range with their remote, but if they aimed the remote at their chin, they could get the car to lock and unlock from about 120 ft away.

I tried it when I was headed back to my car from the mall today, and it works...lol. Probably will get brain cancer now...but it about triples the range.

Hi, I've been pretty pleased with the Elantra that I've had for 2 years now (Dec 1, 2003). Suddenly, I'm having trouble with the remotes not arming or disarming the car, on a random basis.

The worst is not being able to disarm it, since the alarm disables the starter. Wish I'd known that before I bought. Anyway, the dealer tells me the remotes and the alarm system are all working properly. I'm on my third set of batteries for the remotes, which probably didn't need changing so often. Anyone else have this problem?

One thing I learned today is that the remotes for 01-03 Elantras are programmable by the owner (although you have to take the dash apart to get to the ETACS unit). For 04-06, you have to take it to the dealer because a Hi-scan tool is needed to plug in under the dash; you can't do it without the tool. I confirmed this on Hyundai WebTech.

I have 2006 Hyundai Sonata I went near dealer in baton rouge called ALL star he said he would program my remote for 18$ few weeks back and when I went today he said he would prgrammed my key for 57$(including taxes and everyhting). He said they charge me based on the amount of time they spend on programming and also told me that it takes 30 mins to program, but he has returned my car within 10 mins to 15 mins. When i went and asked him about the time and price he said that the amount that has been written in the computer. I have done some research and found that we can program our remotes with in few minutes and there are few online vedios in you tube to do that, so its better do it by yourself.

So lesson to be learnt always do good reasearch before going to a dealer.

Cool Super expensive keyless entry!

Wow! I almost fell out of my chair when my local dealer gave me a price on a keyless entry replacement. They are charging $182 for the keyless transmitter and $108 - yes, $108! - to program it. I searched around the internet and found one site (keyless-remotes.com) that charges $49.95 and another site (remotesremotes.com) that charges $44.95, with free delivery and free tech support. I'm gonna give them a shot.

Their "tech support" is probably done some place that they don't speak good English.

Might want to contact a local locksmith first.

Even if you don't end up getting a remote from them, they probably can explain the programming requirements to you.

Might have to go to the dealer for that regardless of where you get the remote.

Honestly, I work at a call center, and I feel a bit offended when people say, "Oh, thank God you are American! I talked to some Asian lady the other today [blah, blah, blah.]"

I think it just sounds kind of discriminatory. I talk to folks in other departments in other countries, and honestly don't have a hard time understanding them. If you just stop and listen, it's not so difficult.

Plus, "American" doesn't mean you don't have an accent. I love transferring angry customers to my supervisor. He's "American," but originally a transplant from Liberia, and has a thick accent.

Fashionista.
