had cel light come on, then went off, then back on. Diagnostic at Firestone said bad oxygen sensor or catalytic converter?

upstream or downstream, BOSCh or other supplier? Where are located? Any advice would be appreciated.

There's two O2 sensors, one before the cat and one after. Did Firestone give you the code? If not, go to Autozone or Advance Auto for a free code scan, write it down, and report it back here for an intelligent answer.

Thanks for the reply.
Firestone did not give me code. CEL light is OFF now, does it need to be on to generate code?

Some codes will diplay MIL and then go out after couple key cycle, other more hurtfull codes will keep MIL illuminated al the time..

Best policy is to leave codes in place till actual repair is performed, then clear and do test drive(s)..

You could go and see if they did indeed leave the codes in memory, then copt the exact P-xxxx and report back

8yr/80,000 on catalyst I think.. 10yr/100,000 (to original owner I think) if manifold has a crack above the catalyst..

Thanks all for the information and the links.

Looks like could be more then just Oxygen Sensor. I Believe there are TWO (2) catalytic converters on this model. One looks like it is pretty expensive. With 110,000 miles, is it worth doing? I will have to make that decision.

The ox sensor monitor the catalyst attached to the exhaust manifold (pre-cat sensor used for fuel trim at manifold,, and post cat for efficiency monitor).... the cat attached to the front pipe after the post cat sensor is not a monitored item by sensors to PCM..
