I've always used suction cup Garmins, for portability and easy replacement when they fail. And they do fail with alarming regularity. I'm on my third unit in five years.

The biggest problem with portable GPS in the Veracruz is that the 12v sockets are poorly placed, requiring open console covers and cords running right up the middle of everything. Very messy. Adding a 12v socket under the steering column helped a lot, but it's still not as elegant as this product.

i have three garmin units...and i have to take my 765 with me on longer trips because the factory system is useless at times. the arrival times are no where near to accurate...the function of finding an intersection is a joke. so, with the uselessness of the factory, i want to get rid of the factory one.

i think it's silly to have both the factory unit and the garmin sitting atop the dash. and, my first garmin...a nuvi 750...was still working perfectly until it got stolen a week ago. my dad had been using it. it was nearly 5 yrs old.

still have my 760 and 765. been thinking about an 'upgrade', but, only thing i would truly be upgrading would be the maps, which i can sometimes get done for nothing. i just have to ask the right person.

back to this particular unit...the ottonavi brand...according to their own website, i can't swap mine out for this one. i have both the upgraded stereo and the factory navigation. they claim their unit isn't compatible for my vehicle.

Fear you hit the nail on the head. The factory unit is archaic, almost seems as if it were a after thought by Hyundai. I am in the same boat with you in that this will not replace what I have. I have come to the realization that I have a touchscreen radio and nothing else.

I think that applies to a lot of the Veracruz's electronics.

The bluetooth is an aftermarket unit that doesn't integrate with the stereo or download a phonebook from a smartphone. My Elantra does both.

No 3-flash lane-change signal like most other Hyundais in 2012.

And then there's that wacky MOOD light, which seems like something Pontiac would have rejected as "too tacky" for the '77 Firebird.

Clearly the Veracruz was hashed together for quick sale in North America, and then quickly forgotten. But I still love mine, and think of all these quirks as Character.

my personal thought is that when they decided to drop the line...and re-tool/re-design it and re-name it...they ceased any electronics updates and their integration. does that make sense. basically, they just kept what they had until the new model arrives.

again, this is my opinion..and yours may vary
