Hi,
Had my cabin air filter changed out by the dealership as part of my 15k scheduled maintenance. Ever since I have been finding a lot of white "debris" coming from my vents. Took a look at the filter and it seems to be fitted correctly (not sure if you could fit it wrongly)
Anyone experienced a similar problem or suggest a solution?
I am about an hour away from the one and only Hyundai dealership in this area, so im hoping not to have to take it back to them

Just make sure the arrows on the filter are pointed downward.

here is a video showing removal and install on tucsons 05-10' but essentially the same thing. our generation has plastic cylinder that needs to be disengaged as well as the left and right plastic screw/plugs.

I looked at the filter and for the life of me I do not see any arrows! only thing I see is the part number on the side of the filter...I will look again tomorrow:eek:

If you have that much debris, it makes me think it's not the "fuzz" you might get from a tight fitting filter where it scrapes the housing. Have to wonder if maybe there was a critter in there somewhere and they just didn't tell you about the problem? Perhaps stick a shop vac hose on the exhaust side and try to blow things back through the system to clear it out and go from there? My wife had a mess in her Rav4 from a mouse in BOTH air filters, and it also chewed a plug wire.

I don't think its a mouse...at least I hope not!
To me the "debris" looks very much like the filter (same color and feel) also its not consistent in that I can go for a few days with nothing then suddenly get this white trail coming from the vents
Did not get a chance to look for the arrows on the filter this weekend....I will do that tomorrow

Air enter above the filter.. be it freah air from out side, or inside cabin air.

All HVAC air pass through filter first, then through fan, and on throughout the remainder of HVAC via ducts to blow out respective vent that control set to.

Couple mouse trap with chunk of almond wedge in the bait thing ought to do the trick..

Air come in via cowl at base of windshield, through channel and into HVAC filter... that why you want/need to keep clean/free of tree/shrub deris.. that stuff get sucked in and clogs up the filter and makes for compost smell in HVAC.. should see some of the filters we pull out.

I don't see anything else listed under the 15k maintenance that could be the cause. I would have to assume that you had a critter and weren't told. The irregular consistency could be the debris from the old filter that was lodged in there and gets out as it loosens up. I can't think of anywhere else that would have similar material unless there's some sort of baffle just inside the vehicle at the cowl.

Hope you find the cause, and I'll be watching since I park outside all the time and do my own air filters. I have yet to see arrows on mine... Guess that costs extra. Lol

Interesting that you also do not have arrows on the filter (they are mentioned in the manual)
Tucson is due for a oil change and tire rotation pretty soon, I will "discuss" the problem with them
