Hi Everyone - Well through alot of help, I finally got my new Tucson today after a grueling 5 months of pricing haggling and availability issues - Ash Black; FWD; Popular Equipment Package. I know its only about 10 hours old, but so far I absolutely love it. It is beautiful and its riding just as I expected it would. I also love all the goodies that come with the PE package. I'm still not sure how everything works yet and will be in the figuring things out mode for the next few days.

With that said, here's my first issue I could use some help with. I can't seem to get the IPOD to work. I have an IPOD Touch and the first thing I did was connect it using the supplied USB cable that came with the car. Well that didn't work at all so I went to the owners manual to try and figure out what I was doing wrong. It said that an IPOD needs to be plugged into the Tucson's USB port using the "IPOD" charger cable and at least I think --- not the cable that came with the car.

So, I tried that method. When I plugged it in my IPOD started beeping and the display on the console said "reading". Well it was "reading" for about two minutes and then a message came back and said something like reading failed or cannot read.

So, this all boils down to me asking for some help. For those of you who have your IPOD Touch working, what did you do and how did you do it? For those of you who can't get yours to work, are you experiencing the same issue? What did you to fix the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have used my iPhone, My iPod and my sons iTouch. I haven't had a problem with any of them? Is there some setting on your iTouch maybe that isn't set correctly? I would recommend that you try someone else iTouch and see if it works then. If it does then you know it's i your iTouch and if it don't then there is a problem with the radio.

Thanks for your reply.. Are you using the cable that came with the Tucson? The cable that came with my Tucson sort of looks like a wide connector on one end (goes into IPOD) and then the other end is a USB connector and a small pin jack connected with it? Or are you using the actual connector that came with the IPOD touch from Apple? If you could give me a little more detail, thatwould really help. I tried both connectors and nothing seems to work. Am I missing some setting or something? This is really frustrating.

Yes you can only use the Hyundai supplied cable, if you want to control the Apple device with the radio. You cannot use the white cable from apple. You can use a 3.5mm male / male cable from the iTouch to the headphone jack on the dash, but you will not be able to control the Apple device from the radio. Do you have another Apple device you can test it with? That would be the easiest way to test it.

Hi, My daughter has an IPOD Nano, and I will try that as well. By the way - I did try two other IPOD Touches and none work.

I see that you are saying that you are using the Hyundai supplied cable that came with the Tucson. I described how mine looks in a prior reply. Do you have the same one? If so - are you connecting both sections from that cable into the dash or just the USB? Why I ask is that there are two inputs.. One is the USB cable input and the other is the 3.5 male cable. Maybe thats my probelms. I was connecting it into both.

I also want to paste a quote from the owners manual which made me think I needed the white Apple cable. "..You need the power cable exclusively for an IPOD in order to operate the IPOD with the buttons on the audio system.." I did not think that meant the Hyundai cable because that cable is not IPOD exclusive - it can be used for any MP3 player or USB connection..

Ok, I'm a certified goof.

I just went out to try the Hyundai supplied cable again. This time everything worked perfectly with my IPOD touch. The issue was that I was not pushing the cable in hard enough. As soon as I did that, the words "Aux connected" showed up on the display and next thing you know I'm listening to Springsteen and Billy Joel. I did notice that I can't get a playlist though. It appeards to be playing the tracks in alphabetical order or I can hit the RDM button ad it will play in random sequence. But I don't think you can go to a ceratin song you want to hear because it won't let you do that on the the IPOD touch. Sorry for asking you all to read my post when it was just a stupid error! Thanks again.

Frank that's funny you mention that. I just remembered when I plugged my iPhone for the first time it showed on the display of the phone but no sound came out. I just push the car side of the plug in a little harder and that was it. But anyway Enjoy, it's one of the greatest options!
