2008 Azera Oil Change Type And Frequency

We just bought a 2008 Azera Limited 3.8L w/22,000 miles. It's been about 2,700 since the last oil change. It was done at the Hyundai dealer so I expect they used synthetic.

Historically I have ALWAYS changed my oil every 3,000 miles and I've always used castrol GTX dino oil NOT synthetic. Even on my 06 Silverado.

I guess I've felt it was cheap insurance to change every 3K. Is this a mindset I need to trash for the Azera?

I will find out when I read the owners manual tonite whether they recommend synthetic or dino.

What do you Azera owners use - dino or synthetic and how often do you change if you use synthetic. I guess gas mileage might be a little better with synthetic but I guess I still like the peace of mind changing every 3K but probably wouldn't do that using synthetic because of higher cost.

I'd appreciate any feedback you could offer.

thanks,

3000 is a myth, its way overkill. Most cars call for 7500 or 10000. Even the new supercharged Jaguars and stuff call for 10,000 mile oil changes. I HIGHLY doubt hyundai used synthetic in it. It doesnt come with it from the factory as far as I know. I use GTX in all my cars.

Why would you expect they use synthetic? It makes no mention in the owners manual. The recommended oil change interval is every 7,500k or 3,000k for "severe service". They recommend you use "Quaker State". Dino oil is fine if that's what you want to use.

FYI-"severe service" includes any car which is driven on salted roads in the winter, which probably includes 95% of all cars in North America.

It's ok to change your oil at 3k, a lot of people do. I personally use synthetic and change every 12K while changing the filter every 3k. You have to worry about the warranty, so stick with the recommended service.

So how often do you change yours using conventional Castrol GTX? Miles or months?
Like you, I prefer the piece of mind. I change the oil in my vehicles every 3000-3500 miles or every 3 months using Quaker State premium.

My 2001 Elantra has well over 340,000 kms on it and is still running strong. I've had ZERO engine problems with it so I'm not going to change my routine -- If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I get all my oil changes done at the dealership as well. Believe it or not, the dealership is actually cheaper than any of the alternatives in this area.

One "quick lube" joint out this way actually wanted to charge me extra to have Quaker State used instead of their shop brand and another $18 to have them install a Genuine Hyundai Filter for a grand total of $74 and change after taxes! Since that's about twice what the dealership charges, I told them I'd pass, thanks.

Of course, the Hyundai dealership uses Quaker State oil and installs a Genuine Hyundai Filter.

Are local stores like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts and O'Reillys acceptable sources for the Azera's oil and cabin air filters or should those be purchased direct from Hyundai dealers?

I will but my Castrol GTX 5W-20 from them but wanted to be sure of the filters especially the oil filter as it's not the traditional Fram type spin on.

Any good source for a Azera shop manual (Chiltons, haynes, or is factory Hyundai the best?

Autozone or maybe Advance Auto Parts, can't remember, stocks the nice purolator filter for the azera. Comes with both new o-rings.
