Hi all ....
I have a 1.6 2005 matrix manual , as far as I know that 1.6 matrix and 1.6 elantra have the same 1.6 engine which is Alpha 2 ....
What is confusing me is how they have different data in case they are the same ? ...
for example .... horsepower for matrix = 104 HP while in elantra it is 107 HP , the power output for matrix is 76KW@5800rpm while in elantra we have 79KW@5800rpm ..... the torque for matrix is 141n.m@4500rpm while in elantra it is 143n.m@3000rpm !!!!!!
How these data are different while it is the same engine ? !!!!
thanks for concerning ......

Hello
I am no expert but i think it has to do with the car weight which results in these differences.
Bye

AS far as I know that matrix is heavier than elantra and is designed to carry heavy weights than elantra , on the other hand the engine of the elantra has more power and torque than that of matrix although they have the same Alpha 2 engine !!!!! How can this be explained !!!

it's easy to explain, since both cars have the same engine, and the matrix is much heaveir than elntra, then the engine will give less power in the heaveir one wich is the matrix.
suppose the matrix 1.3 ton, while elntra is 1.1 ton. and u push them with your hands wich is easier to push, of cours the elntra. that is the same with the engine is give more power to elntra than the matrix

But I think the engine power and torque are calculated regardless of the cars type and weight ... meaning that it is calculated for the engine when it is outside the car , I mean these data are specific to the engine only and have nothing to do with the car ..... Please correct me if iam wrong ... and thanks for your reply

i don't think so.
as i know these data are calculated for the car itself not the engine.
so these data are affected by the weight of the cars of course

No thats completely wrong! the figures refer to the engine alone.
The differences are just different settings for each model. (with the above logic getz 1.6 should be above 107 HP of elantra due to less weight, but no it produces 105)

For example they configured the Matrix to output less power in order to keep down the FC.

Best regards,

Spiros

hi Ahmed,
Hope everything is fine.
the engine power is related to many things other than the volume "c.c" we can say for example the exhaust system, injection system and mapping. all these have relation with engine power.

to clarify more there are diffence between "bhp" and "whp", where bhp is measuring the power from the engine crank shaft. but the whp is measuring the power from the wheels where more factors come like weight, transmition etc.
usually, the 'whp' is less than "bhp"

Cheers
Ahmed
