I didn't notice it when I washed the car last week, but I guess it's dirtier now, because I saw it today.

I hope I am describing the location properly.
Two pieces of 2" wide tape, like clear packing tape, one about 4" long, the other maybe 2", at the outside panel by the rear doors.

I haven't tried taking it off.
Am going to dealer on Tuesday anyway (tinting) so was going to tell/ask them about it.

But since I trust y'all better than them (still getting over dealing with car salesmen), why is it there?

Thanks,
Suzanna

They prevent gravel from pecking your paint.

I got mudflaps for road tar.
Two strips of tape to protect the car?
For real?

Right now the dirt outlines the edges.

Just wait after 3 years, you'll see a lot of paint gone from in front of the rear wheel. :(

Can someone here EXPLAIN what's this all about? What tape? To me it's obvious this is something that came from the factory and was supposed to be removed by the dealer, like MANY other protective pieces of plastic, no?

Am I missing somethin' here?

There are two pieces of clear plastic sheeting just behind each rear door on the quarter panel and rocker panel applied at the factory to prevent rock chips in the paint. They are not supposed to be removed by the dealer. The owner can do as he/she wishes, but when removed the area is vulnerable to rock chips.

Yeah, I looked this morning and found those two pieces.... I just wonder why are those two sheets not LARGER to REALLY cover the area against damage....

mamamia, I'm sure that Hyundai did computer modeling or track testing and placed the tape where 99.7% of the gravel pecks occurred. Additional tape coverage would have stopped a few more gravel, but with greatly diminishing returns. Take that with a grain of salt. I could be partly or totally wrong, as usual. :)
