Hello...

Just a quick question.

On some sections of highway where the pavement has spaced "openings" ?
I have noticed an odd metallick noise that appears to be from the rims ?

I do not hear it on most ( 99 % ) road surfaces.

Is this common with this kind of wheel / rim ?

Jeff

Can't say that I've heard that noise. Parts of our local sections of the interstate are like that too. Unless you have wheel covers there's not really anything on the rim that could be making a noise like that ... unless you have a loose lugnut or two that's banging against the wheel slightly when hitting a sharp bump at speed.

Metal valve stems (or valve stem extensions) can cause a clicking noise.

This happened to me many years ago - the noise was most noticeable on crossing railroad tracks - and it took me months to track down, even thought the cause was right in front of me.

That said, the so-called "high performance touring tires" on most of the new sedans (including Hyundais) tend to accentuate noise from road irregularities - partly due to the 50 low profile that they present to the road.

The michelin tires are very noisy on some of the gravel road surface.
