Saturday morning my wife and I go out to the car and it stinks something awful. We couldn't find anything all day Saturday and most of today. I went over to Advance Auto and got some carpet cleaning stuff. I cleaned up the floormats and such and could still smell something.

So I was vacuuming the carpet cleaning stuff up and I noticed an area under the rear driver side floormat that was damp. I had seen where there was some sort of vent under the drivers seat pointed toward the rear. It looks like some water must have come through those vents. We had a torrential downpour Friday night and high winds blowing water around.

Does anyone think that water could have come up through the vents? It seems like the only possible explanation. I didn't even know these vents existed before. I would guess it is some attempt to get fresh air in the car, but that seems like a really odd place to put something like that.

Yes, this could happen when the vents are open. I had a CRV once that smelled like mold. Changed the cabin filter, and they washed it for me, in one of those high pressure systems some Dealers have. As soon as I turned on the A/C. water blew out of the thing. Not a good way to control mold, fungus, mildew, or whatever that CRV had?.
