I'd like to know how to remove the center console in a 1998 Galloper II to remove/change the stereo. Any service manual showing this? Instructions? Tips?

Thanks :)

Hello, I finally had my stereo replaced by an authorised installation center, and the stereo guy let me take pictures of the process.

Before all started:

You have to remove three screws on each side of the center panel, to view the screws you have to remove a plastic cover first.

Then, the radio and box trim is removed by lifting each of the four sides using a trim tool or flat screwdriver (no screws). Be carefull since this plastic may break very easily.

This is how it looks when this trim piece is removed:

Then you remove the A/C - clock trim piece the same way as the previous one - no screws, use a plastic trim tool or a small flat screw driver to lift all four corners. Be careful since the plastic trim can break very easy. Unplug all connector from the switches and clock.

Remove the four screws that hold the A/C panel:

Now remove the two screws holding the center console (near the A/C panel):

Now you are able to remove the hole center panel to reach the screws that hold the stereo:

Remove the stereo from the casing and replace it.
Now you have to install all the panels, connectors and screws in the reverse order.

Remember that both the stereo trim panel and the A/C console trim panel will just snap into place. Secure four corners by slighltly pressing on each side one at the time.

Now the new MP3/WMA Kenwood KDC-MP 2028 stereo is installed and working:

I hope that my experience will help you. But remember that if you do not feel confortable removing the plastic trims (they may break) that you should see your professional installer.

Excellent post.

Thanks, this will help me this weekend, I need to refit my Hyundai Stock radio casette (from a Galloper V6) back into my Galloper Diesel.

Sounds unusual, OK I put a sony in the V6 when I had it, but had it stolen (the radio), along with the console trim bit.

Later I sold the V6, but as the wife had a diesel, I just swapped out the complete console trim and radio from the diesel into the v6 in order to fill up the gaping hole.

So I now have my old radio to refit into the Diesel.

It is possible to remove the stereo without following the excellent post above, but it is blumin hard, I have many small tools and I am virtually double jointed and managed to do the whole thing the hard way from accessing all from the rear of the console. Keyhole surgery style

I knew that there must be a better way of doing it.

Now for the best bit the two virtually identical radios have completely different plugs, and I have lost my little piece of paper that had a ll the terminal pins/colours marked .

So does any one have a galloper radio wiring diagram/colour code please.

Mike
