Thanks mc229, and sorry for the digression.

Back on topic, does anyone use Turtle Wax Carnauba, and how would it match up to the Meguires mentioned earlier in this thread? How about Zymol?

Carlos,

Isn't Zymol a polish? You wouldn't want to use a polish on brand new clearcoat. Use a carnuba-based wax for best shine and protection.

I don't think there's a lot of difference in the top 4 or 5 brands of wax.
I'm hearing that Turtlewax Ultra is just about as good as it gets. All the top waxes contain carnuba wax.

Thanks bobad, and sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant the Zymol Detail Spray. It's their afterwash spray that contains 10% carnauba. I wonder if anyone's tried it.

One of the easist way to deal with the bug is either Stoners Tarminator or TW bug & tar remover.
One of the other things that will help is to keep a good layer of protection on your paint this will help when it come to removing the bug splat. Another thing is to try to get it off as soon as you can.

Between washes for my Miata, I used to use warm water, a mild detergent (Palmolive? You're soaking in it), and pantyhose (without the leg in it).

It worked well to remove insect carcasses without damaging my wax, and it didn't cost me an arm and a *ahem* leg.

One of the articles mentioned here under "taking care of the exterior" was mentioning NO SALT SELTZER SODA for removing birds' droppings. I'd guess it to be good for other bad stuff mentioned here. No?

I took a trip to pennsylvanya this weekend and I have to say my car is a bug magnet. I arrived at my destination and I have to say I was pretty frightened at what I saw when I got out of my vehicle to inspect the front of the car. it was covered with a layer of bug crap. The problem is I was stuck in pennsylvanya with no hose to wash them off and no car wash in the vicinity so needless to say they've been stuck to the bumper and hood of the car all weekend, finally took my car to a hand car wash today and I thought for sure they would have been cleared off but that wasn't the case, not only are there traces of bug guts on the bumper but also in the windshield also. I plan on taking it back for a hand wash but is there a product I can use to pre soak the windshield and bumper prior to washing so the bug guts can come off. Because at this point I think I'm in trouble. Any help in this matter will be appreciated  as I'm in love with my LX that's my baby, and yes she makes me happier than my girlfriend. :w00t:

masterpier,

PA doesn't hold a candle to LA in the bug department. We win! :trophy:

It's a never-ending battle for us to keep the bugs off here. Our previous car had permanent dull streaks where we neglected bug removal. We're going to try to do better on this one. (promised promises!)

Here's what we are doing, and it's working so far: Wet the car down a couple of times with a water hose, taking your time before you begin washing. Wash the car, and soap it up good (We use Meguiar's car wash, but any will work). Rub the buggy areas vigorously with a soft mitt, and move on to another panel. Finish that panel, and go back to the buggy areas. Wash the wheels and vacuum the interior, and then go back and wash the buggy areas yet again. Keep doing that until a bare hand can detect no more bugs. The way that works is the bugs get soaked and re-soaked. Every time you re-visit the buggy areas, they come off easier than the last time. This method adds 15-20 minutes to the wash job, which is annoying but tolerable.

To help with the next round of splats, we wax at least the frontal area every time we wash. Takes about 10 minutes is all. You don't have to do a great buffing job, just get the wax on the frontal areas and wipe off the haze. The fresh wax on the frontal areas and Rain-X on the windshield really help the bugs come off easier, and I assume it slows down paint penetration by the acidic bug juice.

A "between waxing's" cleaner like Meguiar's Quik Detailer (spray bottle) is good for spot cleaning bug splats, but if you use it too much, it removes the wax.

I'm experementing with "Dippedy Doo" hair styling gel on my old truck. It's a little ugly, but looks like it's going to work great. It dries to a semi-clear film that rinses off easily. I may be forced to use it on the Sonata when the major love bug outbreaks hit in a week or 2. You wouldn't believe how thick they are. It's hard to beathe in a swarm of them.

Good luck, and keep a stiff upper lip. Don't let those bugs get the best of you.
