Since there hasn't been a thread for US costs recently, I thought I'd start it up again. I know Quinty has a discussion going for north of the border, but this is for those of us without socialized medicine.

Here's the deal I worked out for an '06 LX, base model:
Vehicle cost before tax, title, and licence: $20361
Here's my math:
20,961 (Edmunds invoice value) + 600 (Dest) + 500 (advertising fee) + 500 (dealer profit)
Take away $1000 (V6) + $1000 (financing) + $200 (local car show incentive)

I don't qualify for Hyundai loyalty, recent college grad, or military, otherwise I could have gotten it down another thousand or so, and the regional advertising fee bumped it up a little. I probably could have done a little better in the end, but I'm satisfied. I hate haggling, and the whole thing took only about an hour. By choosing local, and not fitzmall, I get to test drive and make sure there's no unwelcome dings before the paperwork is finalized, and my dealer also offers free lifetime oil changes (making up for the advertising fee?).

So, one more week until I pick it up. They didn't have it on the lot, so it's coming from another dealer.

That's wouldn't be a base model then. :whistling: According to Edmunds, base model invoice with '03' would be 22,285 (1,324 increase). I worry about sunroofs leaking, and I will be replacing the radio, so I don't want the 6 cd changer.

Are you being subtle and telling my I got ripped off?

Let me put it this way................. I bought my car 2 months ago for $20,365 (MSRP $24,945
for the LX w/opt 3). Since then, I found other members posting here and in other forums they
bought the same car for considerably less money. Maybe some of them are full Caca, but in my
case a paid the same price your are about to pay for a car w/o an option that cost $1400. So,
you be the judge.

By the way, the dealer wanted $22,000 on my first visit. Then on my 2nd and last visit I
showed up w/ a print-out of Fitz internet deal. After 3+ hrs they decided to match Fitz offer.
It worth all the hassle because the closest Fitzgerald auto mall was aprox 45min from where I
live.

Keeping in mind this is a Cedar Rapids Iowa dealership not back east. Lower volume means they can't price match Fitzmall.

Base LX (no sunroof or cd changer) for 22061 Invoice (includes dest. and advert. fees)

- 1000 Dealer Incentive
- 1000 V6 Incentive
- 1000 HMFC Incentive

19,061

I may get the $400 graduation Incentive too (still working on this one)

That is exactly the FL (Clearwater) Fitz dealer price for the LX w/o any option. But apparently
the folks living in North East region can get an even better deal ..............

What is this rebate? Besides the 1k for the v6 option, and the 1k for financing, the only other rebates I know of are for loyalty, military, and college grad. I haven't seen just a plain 'dealer incentive'.

http://hyundaiusa.com/financing/specialoff...ial_offers.aspx

But that is BS, I got almost $4600 off the MSRP w/o any rebate other than the $1K Financing
and the $1k rebate. So doesn't matter is you are not a previous Hyundai owner or in the
military or a new grad............... you can get the same rebates any ways. Just need to be firm,
persistent and willing to expend some hrs w/o falling in their game.

We also got our car at a Fitzmall (Gaithersberg MD), we've bought all three of our current cars from there.

Sonata GLS V6 with sunroof, after all rebates including $1000 Hyundai loyalty rebate, $16592 + tax and tags

Haven't yet seen anyone do better than that

That was as close to price matching Fitzmall as they could get. I think Fitzmall had it around $18,500 so I told them $1500 below invoice and they countered with $1000 below invoice. I thought that was fair considering they were great to work with and I know they are a smaller delaership with lower volume.

Bought my GLS 2.4 for $15,700 (MSRP $19,395) plus tax, license, and doc fee (here in IL it is regulated, max. $57). This after total rebates of $2,000.

This was a good deal, I think (was not shoping around). What made the deal GREAT was them offering me top Dollars for my old '95 V6 Accord ($5,000, which is what I could HOPE to get from a private party) -- without even seeing it...

I bought two Sonata LX's for $19.4K each shipping incl. (but before taxes title & misc fees).

List price was $23.4 - I asked for & got 4K in "rebates". As for how you categorize it, $4000 dollars is $4000 dollars. Its all just a word game. I was never in the military, never owned a Hyundai, etc.

The dealer had a bunch of cars on the lot which weren't moving and I was ready to buy with cash in hand.

Someone on Edmunds said they got an LX for 18.1 out-the-door. I wanted to challenge him on it, but the Forum Nazi would probably have complained.

If you can get an LX for 18.1 OTD, you should get it on general principle. It's probably the best buy in modern auto history. :)

Well if they had the Loyal Customer discount and a trade in I could see that. Trade in can eliminate most of the taxes. In my case I got $16,000 for my trade in so I only paid tax on $5000 ($250 tax + $250 title and license)

Still, $18.1K is too low. That guy is either full of Caca or bought an used Sonata.

Even if there was no Sales Tax and no Tag/Lic registration fees (tell which state to move there), still 18,100 is too low for an LX. ahhhhh and w/o the CD Changer / Sunroof option.

The lowest price Fitz mall have right now for an LX w/o option 3 is $18.5K add the sale tax and the registration fees....................

By the way I did not know that a Trade-In lowered the sales tax amt. I always thought taxes are calculated using the sale price regardles of how much you put down or trade in credit. Hummmmmmmm!
