The keyfob larm thingy for my 02 Elantra GT died, and a new battery doesn't fix it. My car is still under warranty, even secondhand (<5 yrs, <60,000 miles), but my Hyundai dealer sez the keyfob is warranted only for 3yrs/36,000 miles, like the radio. Nowhere in my warranty does it say that. Anybody know the real story?

EVERYTHING is covered under the 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty, except those items that are SPECIFICALLY excluded. I looked at my warranty (2005) and there is no exclusion for key fobs, so I'd say it is clearly under warranty.

I too was having problems with my key-fob from my 2001 Elantra. It hadn't died entirely but was often not working. A replacement battery didn't help, but then my mechanic said they sometimes get moisture in them that can cause a problem. He gave it a little spray of WD-40 to get rid of any moisture, and it has been better since, but still not as good as a couple of years ago.

I noticed your informed reply re '02 Elantra key fobs and thought I'd ask your advice.

I have lost one of my two key fobs. '02 Elantra. Any guess as to where I might buy a replacement at low cost?
