I think the new Camry's front grill looks more like Chrysler's "big nose" front design of their large cars, AGGRESSIVE AND MASCULINE... Certainly not very elegant...

No, I don't agree with you about the front, mc.

I didn't mean the new Camry (none of which I have seen on the road as of yet), I meant the one that is currently (dis)gracing our roads in quantities comparable to the number of ants:

(just in case you forgot what it looked like, mamamia)

Oh, THAT Camry... Well, still I don't agree with you about the front, but I have to admit that the Camry design that's now being replaced is one of the WORST design I've seen in past decades.

I remember when the first of those cars started arriving in Toyota showrooms, I went to check it at my local dealership, contemplating renewing my lease (after leasing 3 Camrys in a row). The chubby Russian sales woman was extremely PROUD of the new design, and took me to their back lot to see the one and only car they got... She was proud as if taking me to see her adorable son's painting or something... I was so DISGUSTED with the new Camry that I could't hold it and said "wow, this is ONE UGLY CAR!".... She was truely offended and wouldn't speak to me anymore.

I felt uneasy to tell HER, but then when the manager came to talk to me I told him "this car looks like the front of a FAT LADY WITH HER BIG BRAS" and I made a decision not to lease Camrys anymore.

BTW, we have to be more CAREFUL with our language now.... Less male-pig shovinism, now that we have a LADY on board!

While we can't agree on the Sonata's front with the body kit looking like the recent past-gen Camry, we can both agree that that Camry was pretty ugly. Therefore you could see why I would not like that body kit, since *I* feel it looks like said Camry.

As to our male-pig chauvinism, I'm sure Suzanna probably expected a hint of that or two around these parts, given the fact that motd stalks the land. Muahahaha!
Hopefully, my current avatar might help her vent if she ever feels that her femininity is slighted.

Question:

How important/significant is having MUD GUARDS? From previous cars I remember snow accumulating there that would then fall during the night and make my garage dirty....

Is there a real reason to get them? Are they easy to install?

From what I understand mud guards are made to keep mud, ice, snow, and rocks from damaging your panels just behind the front and rear wheels. Snow and slush accumulates on your car regardless of whether you have them or not, but with the mud guards it just gets closer to the wheel and you might have to get out and kick it off more often to keep things clear for the wheels.

They're really easy to install. Personally, I chose not to get them, but I wouldn't fault anyone who did get them.

Back to my original question (it might be buried in USELESS POSTS TO BOOST PEOPLE'S STATUS (who pi$$ed in MX5's cornflakes?)):

What is the functionality of the aero kits (besides just wanting to look cool)?

Hey mamamia,

I installed the mudguards about a couple of months ago. I have to say that it's pretty difficult to install with the tires on. I was too lazy to have the car lifted, then have the tires removed, then install the mudguards. I struggled with an L-shaped philips screwdriver but I managed.

As for the benefits, I'm sure having them on will cut back on the tar that gets deposited onto the lower portion on the front doors and the running boards. That by itself, to me, is worth it - not busting up your knees when kneeling down on pavement scrubbing away with tar remover. LOL!

The tar is the reason I have mudflaps.

Noticed it when I test drove the car, so had them installed when I bought.

Yeah with 17" wheels I wouldn't exactly say the Mud Guard installation was a cake walk. The fronts were easy. Just turn the wheel to get to the screws. The rears required a combination of tools. I used a ratcheting tilting screw driver and a short screw driver. I also had a long screw driver bit that I use with my hands to turn the screws. Maybe if you had just the right tool it would be easy such as a hand ratchet with screw driver bit. I hadn't thought about the asthetic appearance of them when I ordered them but after the install I thought they looked pretty slick.

Took maybe an hour or so to install all four mudguards but that also included a very thorough all-round washing and waxing of wheels while they were off the car. With wheels removed installation is so easy, a caveman could do it.

My reasons were the following:
1. Not really a fan of the look on my car (would look better on a truck, IMHO)
2. Makes snow and ice accumulate closer to the wheel, which can be a pain when you drive 120+ miles one-way to work
3. Didn't need tar protection quite as much since my car is black and it would blend (yeah, there are some good things about having a black car)

So those were my primary reasons that I can think of offhand at 3:53 AM ;)

Odds are none of those really apply to you - like I said, I couldn't fault anyone who decided to get them.
