This week we parked in a pre-pay unattened lot after 6:00 PM. There were 30 spaces with numbers and 4 with small signs that stated "no parking anytime". Sadly I didn't pay attention to the sign since it was after business hours and these 4 spots were closest to the restaurant we were going to.

After eating we came out to find a large lock on my front wheel and a sign on the window with a number to call.

Long story short....$65 cash to have this crooked #$%@^@ remove the lock so we could be on our way.

My question...is this legal? Had I been able to somehow remove the lock and left would he be able to file charges?

Any ideas????

Haven't you seen the Simpson's episode where they go to NY and Homer parks his car infront of the WTC?

Yes it is perfectly legal to lock the wheel, it's also perfectly legal for them to just tow the car to an impound so I'd consider yourself lucky. Not only is it legal for them to do that, it's illegal for you to tamper with it and try to remove it. Your only option is to pay the fine but do it quickly as I belive the fine increases the longer you are there. Then again you could just drive the car away (assuming you don't need/want a suspension or fenders anymore LOL).

Rumour has it, depending on the size of the clamp, one can jack car up at the clamped corner, let the air out of the tyre and remove the clamp without damaging it or the car. Then whack on the spare and reflate the other tyre next time you're at the petrol station.

obviously falls flat on its face if theres more than one clamp or if it covers the back of the rim!! plus, dont know how its classed in terms of legality!

I can remember several years ago when I was a Cop being called to a railway station where a driver had been clamped. :o

It was 0030 and he'd got off the last train and had tried to call the clamping operator but had got no reply ! I tried too and had the same result. :crying:

I turned a blind eye whilst he managed to let the air out of his tyre and wriggle out of the clamp, and as he gave me the undamaged clamp as found property, :innocent:

I took it back to the police station and booked it in as found in the car park! :right:

The clamper had to travel to our cop shop to collect :auto: it and was not amused!! :blownose:
