I recently noticed a noise coming from the windshield (or windscreen for those who prefer) of my 05 Tucson GLS. It is a clicking/popping noise that is similar to the same noise as when a bug hits your windshield. It is apparent at all speeds, and is especially prevalent on bumps in the road.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you resolved it? I'm thinking it may be something to do with the constant climate change that has been going on here in North Carolina, however, any input on this issue is much appreciated!

Hi Alison
Welcome to the site, reference your question I can't say that this has happened to me at all and I cannot recollect anyone bringing this up as a problem before.(I am one of the retired brigade with nothing to do but look at the internet)

You could ask someone to ride shotgun and by placing their hands on the screen they might be able to see whether the popping can be stopped by applying pressure or they might even locate the spot involved?
Or
Could it perhaps be something at the back of the instrument cluster or the glovebox thats loose and tapping away?

Lastly - Have you referred it to the dealer? (They can help sometimes )

Regards

A few others on another board have had this issue with their Tucson, however, no one has had any sort of solution to fixing the problem, hence why I figured I'd check around here to see if anyone else happens to hear this same noise coming from their vehicle.

It has been brought up at the dealership - I was in a bit of an ordeal to get a particular repair done (rattling coming from sunroof motor - simple procedure turned much harder than it should have been thanks to the technician! i swear, they should've paid *me* for finding the TSB that fixed it, since that's exactly what happened! but that's another story altogether...) so I held off on getting this inspected/repaired. The head honcho technician and the service mgr. have both heard this noise, so now it's just a matter of seeing if they can recreate it (shouldn't be too much of a problem) and diagnose it when I go in next weekend for my oil change/tire rotation & balance.

Thanks for the welcome! :)

I wonder if it's the frame of the car getting torqued a little too much while driving. That could be a big problem. Let us know if you find anything out. In the mean-time, i'll be paying close attention to mine.

Yeah, I'm getting this same sound when I'm traveling in lower gears at low speeds. It sounds like a bug is beating it's wings on the windshield. I'm taking my mom to the dealership where I bought my Tucson to shop for a 2006 Sonata so I might bring it up then (I've owned it for almost two weeks).

Hey All:

I have experienced a sqeaking noise mostly. Which I think is due to something near the base of the windshield rubbing against a sponge or felt liner where the dashboard joins the base of the windshield. I have never heard the popping sound myself.

In any case I am planning to buy a strut tower brace to add to the already controlled and stiff front end. (my model didnt come with one)

Just thinking it may not be the windscreen or anything serious but maybe the roof lining is rattling in the area near the sunroof.

I have a 2005 GL FWD 4 Cyl that does not have sunroof and I still get this rattle (it seems to come from the area in the center of the dashboard where it meets the windshield near the black ball thing in the center).

I've spent the past 2 months diagnosing rattles in my Tucson - one of which was a pesky one coming from the overhead console (TSB related to the sunroof motor mounting screws). Unfortunately, my ear has been tuned to these, and this noise is most definitely not coming from the roof lining. That's a whole other shabang :P

I'm glad to hear that this is not an isolated incident on these forums...although I'm *not* glad that it's an incident at all!

I'll be bringing it up this Saturday when I take the Tucson into the dealership - if you're having this issue, bring it up when you go in, it's a bit of a crap shoot with the service departments but perhaps one of us will have some luck and bring a solution to the table!

Anything is possible at this point - the service tech didn't figuring it out (writing something on my invoice about checking the timer on the wipers and it being OK - yeah, THAT's the noise I was describing to you...idiots, I tell you!).

The weather is warming up here, so perhaps it'll start going away...we'll see, though. I really do love my Tucson, it's just these NOISES are making it a real tough love relationship, and the service department isn't making it any easier.

Hey Alison
If you do not get this sorted before September 20th 2006 then meet me and my other half at JFK when we come to the USA and I will listen to it for you. :P

Come on surely there are some Knights of the Road who live near to Alison in NC- Go listen to it and she can go and get it fixed. :innocent:

I see this post is quite old has anyone found answers to this? I think I am hearing the same clicking/popping noise.
The noise I am hearing is like a metallic clicking / popping sound. Like very thin metallic foil that is clicking in and out. Similar to those things I think they called noddy badges that you press with your thumb to click. I hear it mostly when travelling on a mildy bumpy road at generally all speeds. This sound comes and goes away.
Our vehicles in South Africa have the steering wheels on the right hand side of the vehicle. For me the noise appears to be coming from a little lower than you have mentioned.for me it appears to be somewhere around the the ignition switch (which is between the steering wheel and drivers door on our cars) or somewhere around the steering column. I've tried pressing on all the plastic covers around the steering column, tried pressing on the plastic window at the speedometer, held on my keys in the ignition, pressed on the drivers door cover, to no avail.
Since reading yr post now I will try to focus around the windscreen area as the location of rattles can be decieving.

Ive had the vehicle now for 3 months, bought it as a 1year old vehicle with approx 23000 kilometres on the clock. This has been evident since i purchased it.

I took it in to my local dealership last week for the 30 000km service, and mentioned this. It was listed as "noise or rattle around steering wheel" On my invoice they advised "tightened all steering linkages" for the first 5 or 6 hrs of driving I thought it was solved, but the noise returned.
Just a question -- I dont know what material airbags are made of or how they are packaged. If they are pushed in like parachutes behind the hooter cover, possibly this could be checked out / repacked??

I have 05 Tucson and on occasion I hear the same "loud cracking" noise from the windshield. At first I thought something was hitting the windshield since I was at highway speeds. I don't notice any connection with rough roads or temperature. I can go weeks or longer w/o hearing it so I never took it to the dealer. At least in my situation it gets your attention as its loud enough that it makes you look all over the windshield to see if it cracked, its that kind of sound.

My car was 1 month old when I started hearing the clicking noise around the drivers side door. I hear the clicking when the window is closed and at times low speeds on some bumps. I do notice it when braking to a stop. I've had it look at by the dealers. They took out the plastic frame around the door and tighten it. That didn't do it at all. The clicking noise came back after a while. I've taken the car back to the dealers but the mechanic couldn't hear any clicking... this is frustrating.
