I was wondering if anyone has, or attempted to, install an adaptor to connect an ipod to the factory stereo? The only way I can figure out to connect it is using either a tape adaptor or a FM radio transmiter. Which both of those you lose lots of sound quality.

-Thanks!

You're already dealing with compressed lower quality audio on your Ipod so I don't think an FM transmitter will make that much of a difference.

Maybe I'm an Oldie but I cannot see why anyone would want to use an Ipod in a car when the car has a radio and a CD player can anyone explain please?
Thanks

It's just nice having a few hundred songs on hand when going on long trips.

I'm running a Becker head unit that has an aux-in. That's what I'm running the iPod with; it works great.

Incidentally, I'm very familiar with this issue; no current Hyundai radio has an auxiliary input. Your best bet is to get an aftermarket head unit that has an aux-in (you can get these cheap - Aiwa makes one that works and sounds great and is about $80 from Crutchfield). FM transmitters sound pretty lousy in comparison.

Circuit City has onsale this week a Sony CD player that plays mp3 encoded CDs and has an aux-in jack in the front for mp3 players for $119. I bought the same model at Best Buy last week for $129 which I came back this week and had them price match after I saw the Circuit City ad in Sunday's paper plus 10 percent of the difference. Installation was free, but I paid $25 for the wiring kit and shop supplies which still wasn't bad. They originally quoted me about $13 for an antenna adapter, but it turns out that was needed for the Tucson. I really love the CD player as the red-lit buttons kind of match the Mesa red color of my Tucson. I've gotten a ton of compliments about the color.

anyone still watching this thread? We have a 2005 Tucson with the factory stereo installed. We have tried using our IPOD and BELKIN FM transmitter but the output sounds as though the speakers are covered by some very thick blankets. Even with the volume up, the sound is not crisp and clear, as it should be. The BELKIN works well in other cars, even other model Hyundais. Our Tucson is in the shop today with the guys looking at the aeriel connections to make sure nothing has come loose since we first had it. I think they will not find anything and that the problem arises from the placement of the stubby aerial at the rear and on the roof of the vehicle. The metal skin of the roof causes interference in the signal from the transmitter whereas most other models seem to have aeriels which would be easily visible from the front dash. has anyone else encountered this problem? not wanting to replace the stereo as it works well otherwise - except, car guy stated that an IPOD connection could not be hardwired into the back of the existing stereo.???

he is right, you cannot connect an iPod directly to the factory radio... FM trasmitters are cr*p (in almost every car I have tried one in) and the only way to get good sounds is an aftermarket HU with an Aux input... did that for my wife's Tuc (and my Sonata) and she is happy as a clam now that she can connect her iPod.. however, i think my buddy who has a Maxima has his FM trasmitter connted directly onto the antenna adapter behind the radio and it makes it a "bit" clearer than a standard old FM transmitter..but they're harder to find...

Itsa - in case you are actually reading this thread anymore - iPods are great for things like downloaded audio books (which is what my wife uses it for), many many more songs than can fit on a CD (my iPod has 2,600 songs on it - you can only fit a max of 130 or 140 MP3 songs on a CD) of stuff like that...

My 8 year old son connected his Ipod on Saturday to our Tucson, and it sounds great. I was impressed as he figured out every thing on his own by reading the Manual. The sound is 1000 times better than just listenning to the FM radio or playing a CD.

My SE has a cassette player ('07) so I use the old fashioned tape adaptor. It works. Of course, I was shocked when I was shopping and discovered that a car manufacturer was offering a cassette player in the US, in a new car!

Yes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif) thanks ddix I still watch, Thanks for advice but as I am over 50% deaf in both ears (The right one has Tinitus) I don't put the radio on much unless on a journey with the RDS feature prominent as when I attach my GPS it can pick up problem areas and change directions to assist travel.
Otherwise 130 songs would be more than enough for me I can listen to Queen, Queen and more Queen (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) followed by Beatle after Beatle after Beatle and have that Drummed into my head by Starkey and also Phil Collins and Genesis. I mean WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED !! hey, i cant fault you for Queen or the Beatles (even Genesis isnt bad)... tinitus huh? bummer... i guess that's when you REALLY turn up the volume.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

fair enough.. personally, my commute back and forth to work is the only time I really get to listen to music loud (wife won't allow at home since it annoys her and she hates most of my music), so i wanted something that would allow me to skip through songs i didnt feel like hearing at any given time...
