Hi

I have a Tucson CRDT CDX Auto it has just completed 10000 miles and has been in for its ECU update and new speedo cluster.

Prior to going in for service and upgrades I did some long runs commuting to Angelsey from Gosport and did 2248 miles mostly extra urban with a small (about 10%) urban driving.

I used 331 ltrs of fuel which worked out at 30.9 mpg. I always fill right up to the brim to do the calculations.

The trip computer when the calculation was done to convert US gallons to imperial worked out at 29.4 mpg.

I am hoping for a significent improvement on my next long journeys.

Just returning the 12 miles from the dealer in Portsmouth after service the car clocked up 22 mpg. This was after starting from cold.

Does anyone have experiance of ECU remapping as offered by Celtic tuning. They suggest that the vehicle should be able to return figures in the upper 30's after remapping.

What is this I hear about adjustments to the auto box change down? Is there a mod to improve on the sensitivity of change downs on inclines? I find the box holds onto a higher gear longer when operated in semi automatic mode.

Look forward to any feedback

Regards

Got my New Tucson 2.0CRDT CDX Limited TODAY :grin::grin:

It only had 36 miles on the odometer when I collected it and I am so pleased with it.

Took it out for a spin like you do and covered 40 miles and the fuel consumption meter shows it was doing 36.1 to the UK Gallon. Yes thats a result.

There is a vast difference with this New Evo IV Engine and coupled up with the 6 speed manual transmission it really is out performing my early version Tucson.

More later when I have had it a while and have used the first couple of tankfulls.

Sorry USA you have to get the diesel engine in your country.

Cheers

Hi all, disappointed to see so many with the same fuel consumption issues with the 2ltr. CRDT CDX as me.
After having recalibration & then the cluster replaced, consumption remains at about 33.4 mpg (driving very carefully) Dealer says no more can be done, Hyundai say brochure figs. are nothing to do with them & quote EC Directive EC/93/116/EC, but how is it that my 2 previous diesels Rav 4's were tested under the same directive but produced better mpg. than the official figs. Ah well back to Toyota next.
Has anyone had any success in improving mpg. Does re-chipping realy work?

I have a pre Euro 4 Tucson diesel (common rail) auto done 12500 miles get 37mpg on a long run and about 22mpg around town. Journeys of under 5 miles relly cain the fuel consumption. Have to keep down to around 60mph and no "red lining" on acceleration

I have a 2007 Tucson CRTDi with a 6 speed gear box. I am, like many, disappointed with the fuel consumption. The average has never changed since I bought the car new and I have now driven over 10,000 miles.

The worst is 28mpg on hilly, country lanes. The best is 38mpg (rarely) on main roads/motorways. The average is 33mpg.

Hi Avalon

Well my Tucson Limited I have now owned for 1 year (29/01/07) and I have covered 8000 miles and I have kept a log of all fuel purchased and all mileage covered. My Tucson has been used towing my Avandale Dart Caravan on several occasions during the year and I now find that I have averaged just over 32.4 MPG overall.
This is good for a Two Ton Brick of a car pushing its way through Rain, Hail, Winds and sometimes Mud.

Its been on many Motorways (M3, M4 & M25 and M1 mostly) and A roads but the majority of its work has been on busy local roads and all of its use is purely Domestic (As I am now retired)

I count myself as a Very Pleased Tucson Owner who will be even more delighted if the returns go UP higher next year.
To those who see big differences in their fuel returns all I can say is it really is decided by the weight of the right boot.

Cheers all

Itza

Hi all.

1 week ago today I became the proud owner of a Tucson CRTD CDX registered Mar 2005. The first thing that hit me was the fuel economy!! Took it for a run to the coast on Sunday to get a better idea of fuel economy driving grandad style 50-60mph all the way etc and managed to get 32mpg but running about I'm only getting 23mpg. My bosses 5ltr V6 Range Rover does better than that!

Having Googled for reviews of the car since I bought it I came across this site and this topic. Thanks to everyone who put in all the hard work and endured major frustrations back in 2005.

It was interesting that rather than issue a recall they only offered the mods to owners that complained. It also amused me how they had worded the letter offering the mods as 'a gesture of good will' without accepting any responsibility or even acknowledging there was even an issue.

Makes you want to swear, loudly!

Anyway I have contacted Hyundai UK since my local dealer claimed to know nothing about any fuel consumption issues and I wait in hope that will offer me the mods. As they never accepted any responsibility previously I could be back where you guys were 3 years ago.

Regardless of what happens I intend to keep my eyes open for 2005 Tucsons and make the owners aware of this site and the mods that have been done and try to drum up new interest at the various local dealers!

Hi Blackers and a BIG welcome to this website, thanks for your input and I really hope you get a reply from Hyundai GB.
If you get no joy come back to me and I will advise who and where to contact.
One of the main things is your vehicle was made in 2005 and a lot will depend on when it was actually made as there was a cutoff point for the modifications as they apparently incorporated these mods in UK cars after a cerain chassis number and date.(Think that with a March import date your Tuc should have had the mods- Biggest problem as you picked up on if no one complained then it was thought that it was running ok and to spec- so if the 1st owner was complacent then that was that.
You could take your Tuc into your dealer and ask him to have a look at it to see if the latest ECM download has been applied to the vehicle as this download was coupled with the mods- the mods themselves did not improve things it was the computer update for the vehicles.
Then with a Powerbox things can also be improved.
Dont fall for the el cheapo box being sold on ebay for £9.99 that unit is only fit for the bin, what you need is one of the German powerboxes with the proper connectors and the 2/ 3 year guarantee and as it's a German made product it has to do what it says or the G-government gets really uptight .

Any more info contact me via http://www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk or leave a pm here.

Cheers
