Hi all. 1st post. WooHoo!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this prob. The Hatch open warning light and the hatch light itself just started staying on....all the time. I unplugged the hatch light so as not to drain the battery, buy the dash warning light is still on. I couldn't find a sensor on the latch of the hatch, and here's the wierd thing...when i hit the brakes, the light shuts off. I'm thinkin some serious electrical issues here..... Its been two days, and its not draining the battery to extinction yet, but I don't want it to either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I had the same problem -- I fixed it by readjusting the hatch lock assembly, so it closes the hatch tighter but not too tight.

Just sent you an e-mail. Don't know if hatch sensor adjustment is the right fix, as this doesn't explain brake light phenom. Anyone know where to get free wiring diagrams or schematics? Will no doubt have to resort to removing hatch panel to get a closer look as I am unable to find the sensor anywhere along the hatch jamb or frame.

Anyone else have this problem? Any new ideas? My guess is common ground or hot wire shorting/corroding.

Gots to go. Hope to hear some replies.

Have same problem, trunk lid warning light is always on, and when I press brakes goes off.
Checked tailgate switch, still on.
I will try something latter, and let you know.
If someone fixed this issue please let me know
Thanks

Sorry for not getting back sooner.
Got it fixed. There's a square harness where a majority of the dash wiring merges under the dash. The wiring is so thin and brittle, when my mechanic took a look, the wires pretty much disintegrated from their channels in the harness. The wire running to the hatch light wasn't even connected. He just bypassed the harness and hardwired them together.

I'll have to check that out myself. I have the opposite problem where the hatch light never comes on. I checked with a volt meter and other tactics... If I supply a ground where the hatch switch is, the light will come on but the indicator in the dash still does not light.

Hi, first post for me. I just acquired a 2002 Accent L (I'm parking the V8 truck to save some money)!

I have a similar issue, trunk open indicator is on and won't shut off. Where is the sensor located on the trunk/hatch so I can start debugging this?

I didn't notice that braking caused it to go off, but if the sensor is in the latch mechanism it would follow that slowing down might cause a tighter seal, forcing the sensor to think the hatch is closed... maybe...

I have a 2001 Accent 3 door (which has a nickname of Pud- doesnt have enuff power to pull the skin of a rice pudding)...didnt know that the hatch triggered the warning light on the dash ! I thought it was just the doors?

Hey how do you clear the water pipes leading to the rear window washer? Mine's blocked!!

First try using a very fine steel wire, like from a fine wire brush or fine wire wheel and wiggle it in the hole(s) of the spray nozzle.

The sensor is in fact in the lock, but I couldn't figure out how to break the circuit (when the hatch is shut) to get it to shut off. I simply unplugged the cable from the latch and the light is now permanently off.
