I just got a new red X50 police scanner, and noticed that it doesn't detect many cops, but just sits there on my windshield. I understand that cops sometimes don't have there radar on, so it won't alert me, but i think there is something wrong with the scanner. THe manual says that some car windshield reflect the scannar signals, causing the radar to not detect signals as well. Is anyone else having this problem?

the radar needs to be active in order for the detector to "see" them. Most cops use "instant on" radar, where they turn their radar on only for a few seconds to get your speed, and by the time the detector goes off in this case, its too late. Very few cops will drive around with the radar on constantly, as it will alert the radar detectors. My only advice is to make sure its not in the tinted part of the glass

With any radar, especially instant-on, it's best to Not Be the "leader of the pack" but be back about a quarter mile from a car in front of you. Let him take the hit and your radar will pick up the refracted signal that bounces off him. It is rare that this will work with laser, unless the cop happens to have real bad aim and it bounces off the side of the car.

Most X and K signals can be ignored (depending on your location and what the cops have for a budget) but when Ka goes off beware. We also have a lot of them around here that don't run a gun ... they just try and hide behind you and measure your speed that way. I'm running a V1 by the way.

I have the same model. Haven't noticed any problems, just plugged it in and stuck it on the windshield. I use the auto mode. Seems to pick up everything it should without being too sensitive. BTW I have full tint on my car and I haven't noticed any decrease in performance.
