I am wondering if there are many Tiburon's running out there with over 100,000 miles and if so what work have you needed to do to them. I am trying to determine if it is going to be worth it to replace the timing belt or not on the car.... I have 100,400 miles on it. I have not had to replace anything on the car so far besides the brakes, tires, oil filter, and air filter. I am getting the rest of the blets replaced on tuesday and am wondering if I should get the timing belt replaced as well. I know the reccommended is 60,000 but so far no trouble. And if the rest of the car is going to start to fall apart then it may not be worth the $600 at this point. Let me know what you think......

I'd get that belt changed with the other belts ASAP. I haven't seen too many Hyundai's make it far past 100k miles without the original belt breaking. If your car is still in good shape now, I doubt it will start falling apart before the belt breaks. And then what good will the car be with a junk motor. If the belt breaks, you'll be looking at some cylinder head work at the minimum.

I always believe in the old saying... Take care of your car and it will take care of you. Change that timing belt and keep up with your other regular maintenance and you'll be able to keep on loving your tiburon like you have.

My Tiburon is at 118000 miles and I believe it has the original timing belt on it. I am going to replace it ASAP because I know what will happen if it breaks. I think this is a great car and wont have many things needing to be replaced. Mine on the other hand had a previous owner that thought it was an off roac car so I have had to replace a lot of the suspension. I love my tiburon!!

I've got 135k, changed the timing belt at 68, and am replacing it again as soon as I can line up a good shop to do it.

Other maintenance, not much. I need to do something about brake vibration but the captive rotors make that a pain in the butt.

I had to have the flexible section of the exhaust replaced awhile back.

Other than that, nothing besides oil changes and other routine maintenance. Just changed the plugs and wires a month or so ago too.

I change all the belts when I replace the water pump.

Also, timing on our motors is VERY easy. With time and the tools its really not hard to do the job yourself.

Well I had the same timing belt for my original car even at over 130k miles. Dont feel bad, when I took it to my neighbor mechanic to get it replaced, he basically said that the belt was almost dryrodded; also the camshaft was starting to zing.

I own my second 01 Tib, I really like them a lot. Very reliable, as said before, you take care of it...it will take care of you. I have 136k on my Tib ( bought it w/ 89k) preventive maintenance is key. I've changed the timing belt at 108 to find out that is was changed already. No problem, them had a BG engine flush, use Castrol Edge synthetic oil (better protection) NGK Platinum plugs, and NGK wires (keep it Korean spec) changed v-belts the whole nine. You have these things done, (investing a little now) and you will be able to enjoy a much more long lived Tib. BTW I forgot to mention I drive 94 miles a day, six days a week.

instead of spending $700-800 on a new timing belt u can go ahead and get a complete engine. Engines with 50-80K milles run at around $500-800.
So if ur car has over 100K miles just get a new engine instead of replacing the timing belt. It might not be the perfect option for some people, but worth considering....i have a budy mechanic so when my time comes i will just get a new engine and have him replace it for me. will probably run around 1k just 200-300 more than replacing the belts.
