Hi there,

I'm trying to source parts for my Galloper. I live on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland.

The car was originally bought by my brother in Azerbaijan about 10 years ago and when he left there he sent the car back to me in the UK (nice brother!).

However, at the moment it's sitting at the garage waiting for me to find a clutch slave cylinder before it can be driven again!

The VIN number, for some reason isn't showing on Hyundai's records (Even their international database) so nobody wants to sell me a part!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as it's a great car and I'm getting a sore back doing long journeys in my suzuki samurai!

Cheers!

Hi!,

You can contact any Hyundai or Mitsubishi service repair garage.

This part should be available second-hand from older Pajero models?

Try this.

Best regards,

Petar.

If you can ID the engine and/or state the Pajero cousin, aftermarket parts are plenty!

Else you could remove the part and have a shop help you find a replacement (by measure).

Hi, probably too long to reply to your post but I have only just joined this forum and was very interested to read your reply about the Hyundai Galloper spares situation? I own a 2.5TD 1999 Galloper which I have imported into the UK from the Middle East. Lots of people have told me you can use Mitsubishi Pajero earlier model parts but this is NOT entirely the case, not everything is the same for example I am missing a front wheel AUTO /FREEWHEEL UNIT cap and this is not the same as the Pajero. Also, when trying to get spare parts from the internet nearly all ask for a chassis number and if its pajero parts your wanting then you cannot give a Hyundai Galloper chassis number. Hyundai UK do NOT want to know, Hyundai Germany do NOT want to know neither do Mitsubishi Germany and Hyundai Belgian likewise!! There are a few bit and bobs for sale on the German ebay site but not too much. If you know of ANYWHERE where spares can be found I would be more than interested.

Hi I have just seen your post on the forum as I have just joined as I also own a Hyundai Galloper (and live in Scotland, Morayshire) and I am also looking for spare parts like mad? Do you still have the car and if so did you have any luck with parts? Who did you contact with the vehicle VIN number to see about spare parts? I have tried Hyundai UK, Germany and Belgian without any luck, Mitsubishi in Germany where the Galloper is sold as a Mitsubishi Galloper Exceed dont want to know, I have even tried Israel and they wont help. I can get bits from Oman where I bought the thing but its getting someone to bring back for me? I think mechanical things are bye and large 'similar' on the older Pajero (1983 to 1991) models but not everythng. I am missing the cap of the front wheel AUTO/FREEWHEEL unit and its NOT the same as the Pajero!!

Hi all, just registered.

I have a 2.5 Td Galloper (1996) here in Baku, I bought it in Tbilisi (Georgia) but have now moved to Baku (Azerbaijan)

Most (if not all) Gallopers in the Azerbaijan/Georgia region were from Georgian Motors/Caspian Motors/Mitsubishi Motors, all three companies are virtually one in the same and source their vehicles from Al Habtoor Motors in Dubai.

The local dealers are very helpfull, and can get all parts, they also have a nice parts catalogue that lists all the parts with both Galloper numbers and equivalent Pajero/shogun numbers when compatable.

I understand that Mitsubishi and Hyundai in Europe/UK are not playing the game and not providing support etc, however if you need the compatable part number, just post on here or email me (it is in my profile) I will endeavour to get you the equivalent part number.

I bought my galloper new in 1997 (1996 manufacture) ran it for a couple of years, and then gave it to the wife after I managed to get hold of a V6 galloper for $10,000 one year old with 19,000km on the clock from the local dealer, it was a return vehicle when an oil company sold up everything and left the country when the oild prices dropped (look at the prices now) The beloved wife then fell in love with freelanders, so I sold the V6, bought her a freelander and I took back the diesel.

Despite many runs from Tbilisi to Baku over the years it has only clocked up 96,000km (engine is only just run in some might say)

Probs so far with it.

Had a bad fan belt that snapped and wripped out the rad in the first year, replaced under warranty. err that is it.

Apart from that only ever had normal regular servicing and consumables, tyres /shocks etc. We did have a new clutch fitted last year, that was due to the wife prefering the clutch to the hand brake.

Oh and the instrument pod on the dash is now looking the worse for wear due to sun/solar damage, the plastic/vinyl has become discoloured.

Today I noticed a sudden increase in power as we approched Baku, due to the engine getting some nice clean air at sea level, in Tbilisi we were at 450 m above sea level, however I have also taken the old girl up to 2000m above sea level on skiing trips in the Georgian mountains, you need to work the gears a lot more at that altitude.

All in all a blumin good buy, paid $20,000 (yes USD) for her ten years ago, and she never misses a beat. (touch wood)

Running costs down here are hard to believe, diesel is 20p (UK 20 pence) per litre.

Today half way from Tbilisi to Baku we stopped to top up the tank (guage was showing about half full), the smallest local bill/note I had was a 20 manat (10 UK pounds), I said fill her up, and they could not fit it all in.

Sorry for the very long post.

But if I can help anyone, especially those with a vehicle that originated from Az/Geo or Dubai area please contact me.

regards

Mike H

Hi,
I read your post with great interest!! I have a 1999 2.5 TD Galloper II LHD LWB 4x4 imported from Oman into the UK last year when I left there. I have been trying to source bits for it since then but its difficult to say the least!! You can get them from Korea but it costs. I am currently looking for the front wheel hub AUTO freewhell unit CAP (the funny shaped thing held on by six scres with AUTO freewheel written on it). Friends of mine have tried the scrap dealers in Oman for me but there are none available? From Korea I have been quoted $110 (dont know if thats just for the cap or the WHOLE unti?). This unit is NOT the same as the old Pajero's either!! I would be very interested in getting a list of equivalent parts for the Pajero? I have a Haynes manual for the early 1983 -1998 (I think) Pajero and a COMPLETE service manaual for the Pajero SPORT on PDF!! I would be very interested in a service manual for the GALLOPER if you can get hold of one (even a copy)!!. I also have the OWNERS manaul on PDF too. You are also right in saying Mitsubishi in UK will NOT hep AND neither will Hyundai. I wrote to Hyundai in Germany and they said I would get bits from Mitsubishi in Germany as they now MAKE AND MARKET the Galloper over there. They were NOT interested because my Galloper wasn't imported into Germany!! My contact details are:

Hi there,

What am I doing in Baku? Engineer Working for BP, on the new pipeline project (well not so new, we filled the first tanker in Ceyhan, Turkey last month)

CHC, Sorry do not know any of the Guys in Baku yet, but I was very good friends with their team in Tbilisi (Georgia) I was working up there for the last few years. I was also the HLO (Helicopter Landing Officer) for one of our construction sites.

Best fun ever, and also about the worlds most potentialy dangerouse job, you have to ensure that the helipad is clear, all fire fighting teams are ready, then wave the heli down a few meters in front of you.

I will be very busy the next week, I need to get my Galloper customs cleared, but soon as that is done I will pop up to the dealer and see what I can get hold of for you.

Is your Auto cap help on with screws, or by six clips, the Galloper I is just snap on fit, the six spring clips are all mounted on a thin metal ring.

It is quite annoying that the EU dealers will not help import owners, it is not as if you deliberately by passed them to get a cheap deal, you are same as many folks that worked over in this region and took your car back.

If I can not find what you want here, do not worry, one of my colleagues has just transfered to Sharja, and he used to have a Galloper II. He is my ex boss, his replacement does not start until 2007, so I have to run the dept as well as doing my own job, he owes me a favour or two.

Regards

Mike.

Hi,
I would appreciate any help/assistance/info anything thanks alot.
The wheel caps on the back wheels of the Galloper are solid and just clip on, the front caps also just clip on however, they have a HOLE on the top which allows it to fit over the bit I need, the freewheel unit cap which is held on by six screws (AUTO freewheel is written on it). Unfortunately I am offshore just now so I cannot send you a picture of it. I am a helicopter engineer working for Bond Offshore on the new JIGSAW contract with a SAR helicopter on BP's MILLER platform in the North Sea. I brought my Galloper home from OMAN last year. I have been in contact with a guy in London with 5 of them ALL RHD (he says they have been converted from LHD), he cannot get them registered in the UK because he cannot prove he was the owner previous to them coming into the country? I would certainly say the Middle East is the place to get manuals because they are written in English for the Indians (who do all the work). OK thanks again, keep in touch

Hi Lucas,
Clarkie here, I saw your post but I cannot remember you asking me for a manual? If it is the owners manual you want email at alanclar@gmail.com. I don't have a problem with overheating although I don't drive mine at 130?? Dont think it can go that fast (I am talking about the diesel model of course).

I am not sure about the gearing of the Galloper II, but the Galloper 1 is quite low geared. (diesel)

I tend to dive on the rev counter rather than on the speedo.

I can cruise all day through Azerbaijan (very hot over here) at just over 3000 rpm, which is about 100/110kph. I have tried the old girl out to 130, but the roads do not allow these speeds here for longer than a few hundred metres before you have to slow down for a pot hole (pot holes here are the size of a lwb galloper)

When I say low geared it means that the top speed is restricted by the gear ratios, this gives you a lower top speed, but more pulling power if you are carrying heavy loads.

I once had the old girl filled with flat pack kitchen cabinets ( for three houses), rear seats folded down, filled to the top, spare bits stuffed under front seats etc, and drove through the azerbaijan dessert lands, with no probs. (outside temp was 38/40 deg C)

A while later I did have an over heating problem, all appeared well, until it suddenly blew its top and blew steam every where, I also had the same problem with my other Galloper 1 V6, again a sudden overheateing for no apparent reason.

I narrowed this down to be due to the most simple stupid fault ever.

The radiator cap is made of very thin cheap metal, I regularly check the fluid levels and in doing so the tabs on the rad cap get deformed. So after a few checks if you are not careful to push the cap down before you twist it to lock on, you will deform the tabs, hence loss of pressure and a boil over.

I tapped the tabs back with a small hammer and everything was OK from then on, I then bought new rad caps for both and never had any problems since then.

Clarkie:

Re the Auto free wheel hub covers.

I now know exactly what you need, had a poke around some of the G2s in the garage today, they have a different pattern/set up to the G1.

Unfortunatley some one else entered the garage, otherwise I would have had one off for you (Nah only joking) But I now know exactly what you are after.

I will let you know as soon as I speak to the guys at Caspian Motors

regards

Mike.
