Hi there,
I'm trying to source parts for my Galloper. I live on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland.
The car was originally bought by my brother in Azerbaijan about 10 years ago and when he left there he sent the car back to me in the UK (nice brother!).
However, at the moment it's sitting at the garage waiting for me to find a clutch slave cylinder before it can be driven again!
The VIN number, for some reason isn't showing on Hyundai's records (Even their international database) so nobody wants to sell me a part!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as it's a great car and I'm getting a sore back doing long journeys in my suzuki samurai!
Cheers!

Hi!,
You can contact any Hyundai or Mitsubishi service repair garage.
This part should be available second-hand from older Pajero models?
Try this.
Best regards,
Petar.

Hi all, just registered.
I have a 2.5 Td Galloper (1996) here in Baku, I bought it in Tbilisi (Georgia) but have now moved to Baku (Azerbaijan)
Most (if not all) Gallopers in the Azerbaijan/Georgia region were from Georgian Motors/Caspian Motors/Mitsubishi Motors, all three companies are virtually one in the same and source their vehicles from Al Habtoor Motors in Dubai.
The local dealers are very helpfull, and can get all parts, they also have a nice parts catalogue that lists all the parts with both Galloper numbers and equivalent Pajero/shogun numbers when compatable.
I understand that Mitsubishi and Hyundai in Europe/UK are not playing the game and not providing support etc, however if you need the compatable part number, just post on here or email me (it is in my profile) I will endeavour to get you the equivalent part number.
I bought my galloper new in 1997 (1996 manufacture) ran it for a couple of years, and then gave it to the wife after I managed to get hold of a V6 galloper for $10,000 one year old with 19,000km on the clock from the local dealer, it was a return vehicle when an oil company sold up everything and left the country when the oild prices dropped (look at the prices now) The beloved wife then fell in love with freelanders, so I sold the V6, bought her a freelander and I took back the diesel.
Despite many runs from Tbilisi to Baku over the years it has only clocked up 96,000km (engine is only just run in some might say)
Probs so far with it.
Had a bad fan belt that snapped and wripped out the rad in the first year, replaced under warranty. err that is it.
Apart from that only ever had normal regular servicing and consumables, tyres /shocks etc. We did have a new clutch fitted last year, that was due to the wife prefering the clutch to the hand brake.
Oh and the instrument pod on the dash is now looking the worse for wear due to sun/solar damage, the plastic/vinyl has become discoloured.
Today I noticed a sudden increase in power as we approched Baku, due to the engine getting some nice clean air at sea level, in Tbilisi we were at 450 m above sea level, however I have also taken the old girl up to 2000m above sea level on skiing trips in the Georgian mountains, you need to work the gears a lot more at that altitude.
All in all a blumin good buy, paid $20,000 (yes USD) for her ten years ago, and she never misses a beat. (touch wood)
Running costs down here are hard to believe, diesel is 20p (UK 20 pence) per litre.
Today half way from Tbilisi to Baku we stopped to top up the tank (guage was showing about half full), the smallest local bill/note I had was a 20 manat (10 UK pounds), I said fill her up, and they could not fit it all in.
Sorry for the very long post.
But if I can help anyone, especially those with a vehicle that originated from Az/Geo or Dubai area please contact me.
regards
Mike H

Hi there,
What am I doing in Baku? Engineer Working for BP, on the new pipeline project (well not so new, we filled the first tanker in Ceyhan, Turkey last month)
CHC, Sorry do not know any of the Guys in Baku yet, but I was very good friends with their team in Tbilisi (Georgia) I was working up there for the last few years. I was also the HLO (Helicopter Landing Officer) for one of our construction sites.
Best fun ever, and also about the worlds most potentialy dangerouse job, you have to ensure that the helipad is clear, all fire fighting teams are ready, then wave the heli down a few meters in front of you.
I will be very busy the next week, I need to get my Galloper customs cleared, but soon as that is done I will pop up to the dealer and see what I can get hold of for you.
Is your Auto cap help on with screws, or by six clips, the Galloper I is just snap on fit, the six spring clips are all mounted on a thin metal ring.
It is quite annoying that the EU dealers will not help import owners, it is not as if you deliberately by passed them to get a cheap deal, you are same as many folks that worked over in this region and took your car back.
If I can not find what you want here, do not worry, one of my colleagues has just transfered to Sharja, and he used to have a Galloper II. He is my ex boss, his replacement does not start until 2007, so I have to run the dept as well as doing my own job, he owes me a favour or two.
Regards
Mike.

I am not sure about the gearing of the Galloper II, but the Galloper 1 is quite low geared. (diesel)
I tend to dive on the rev counter rather than on the speedo.
I can cruise all day through Azerbaijan (very hot over here) at just over 3000 rpm, which is about 100/110kph. I have tried the old girl out to 130, but the roads do not allow these speeds here for longer than a few hundred metres before you have to slow down for a pot hole (pot holes here are the size of a lwb galloper)
When I say low geared it means that the top speed is restricted by the gear ratios, this gives you a lower top speed, but more pulling power if you are carrying heavy loads.
I once had the old girl filled with flat pack kitchen cabinets ( for three houses), rear seats folded down, filled to the top, spare bits stuffed under front seats etc, and drove through the azerbaijan dessert lands, with no probs. (outside temp was 38/40 deg C)
A while later I did have an over heating problem, all appeared well, until it suddenly blew its top and blew steam every where, I also had the same problem with my other Galloper 1 V6, again a sudden overheateing for no apparent reason.
I narrowed this down to be due to the most simple stupid fault ever.
The radiator cap is made of very thin cheap metal, I regularly check the fluid levels and in doing so the tabs on the rad cap get deformed. So after a few checks if you are not careful to push the cap down before you twist it to lock on, you will deform the tabs, hence loss of pressure and a boil over.
I tapped the tabs back with a small hammer and everything was OK from then on, I then bought new rad caps for both and never had any problems since then.
Clarkie:
Re the Auto free wheel hub covers.
I now know exactly what you need, had a poke around some of the G2s in the garage today, they have a different pattern/set up to the G1.
Unfortunatley some one else entered the garage, otherwise I would have had one off for you (Nah only joking) But I now know exactly what you are after.
I will let you know as soon as I speak to the guys at Caspian Motors
regards
Mike.
