Here in Ontario, Canada we have VERY tough new laws against speeding. Going over 50 KM an hour over the posted speed limit will get your driver's licence suspended and your car impounded. The speeder will also face thousands of dollars in fines and have their car insurance premiums raised to an astronomical level. As a result of this any sane person who does not have thousands of dollars of extra cash to waste will not go over 149 KM on our highways.

Just a footnote on this , drivers have been caught going over 200 KM who were as young as 16 and as old as 86 .

well i guess i'm a newbie but boy do i got a story to tell you... 97 Elantra SE 1.8L DOHC 212 Km/h, only mod is a jerry rigged supra's K&N air filter on stock parts, with a killer noise of a rusted out flex pipe roaring down the highway, on a set of yokohama 215's on the front and radials on the rear.... as for the wrong car for speed comment .... HECK NO.... i owned a 1990 civic 4door and these car's stock compare to the civic's pretty close... if you were to pioneer the mods i am for this car you know what i am talking about... as for the noise you can buy dampening material for the road noise

I don't doubt it that you were able to go that fast. These cars seem very fast . I don't know if it just feels fast or is actually as fast as it feels ? The car seems faster with it's 2L engine than my old 76 Olds Delta 88 with a 350 cubic inch engine . Maybe it's because of the cars ( Elantra ) size and weight that it can go so fast with such a small engine ? I personally have never taken my Elantra past 140 KMH but I could feel at that speed that it could go even much faster .

I would just be happy to have my car start and stop at all the appropriate times. And do it every day. Never mind going fast.
