So, heres the low down...

Apparently the 1997 model has got these darn bolts holding on the endcap rotor assembly (paraphrased) that does not allow just any old wheel to be fitted. The issue is that on this model the bolt heads (not the studs/posts for mounting the wheel/rim) are not counter sunk and the only kind of wheel that fits must have gaps, spaces or whats known as "cavity back" to allow the bolt heads to hide away while the wheel sits flush on the mounts.

A motegi and AR wheel were originally chosen stated that the wheel fits, but they only cared about the overall dimensions and bolt offsets and such. this sort of thing is a huge unknown. One tech at AR even said dont worry just take these troublesome bolts out, you dont need em; they were used only during assembly. Well in fact if they would be left out, i would not have any brakes cause the rotor would still turn around the end cap that are not together any more! These are experts for crying out loud that make the !@#$%^ things in the first place.

I beleive that more than one of this car was made and i am having a **** of a time finding a new set of wheels without going to Hyundai.

if anyone knows of any specific wheel maker and model would be nice that does fit please, please, pretty please let me know.

i have been to pro wheel/tire shops and this has been a very trying (and failing) exercise in discovering a solution. DO i have to replace the brakes or end cap or other significant parts to be able to have a pick of the wheel world?

:(   :crying: :crying: :liebe011: :liebe011: :liebe011:

If you do a search on 'captive rotors ' you'll find threads dealing with this subject , also scroll down through related threads . A thread on newtiburon also deals with the subject .

http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthrea...=CAPTIVE-ROTORS

solutions :

-drill the wheels to accept the bolt heads
-buy new wheels for captive rotors
-convert to 00/01 Tib hub assemblies

oh , and welcome to the forum

Hi there, got a 1998, and had same problem. You do need recesses in back of wheels. I put wolfrace tuscans on mine and had to drill holes or my boyfriend did. However there are 5 wofrace wheels that definatley fit with no mods. One is Ikon plus as im just ordering them for my sister. good luck

Hey! Thats funny because I thought i was the only person that has happened to. One shop of "professionals" told me the same thing. Just take them off they are only used during assembly. I noticed one time when i was rotating my tires that some of them are missing so i dunno if the previous owner had someone replace stuff or what. Well i have a nice set of chrome wheels that i bought from a tire place called Big O Tires(you can look at my pictures in my garage. Only one pic has them on it). The first ones I ordered didn't fit because they weren't cavity back. The second pair we made sure they have the cavity back. There were only about four wheels i could choose from. Big O Tires said that is the only car they have seen that on. Hope you find some wheels!!

Hey guys.
I was just wondering how do you take off the door panels to a 1997 Tiburon fx 2.0L. I had removed all the screws around the door panel but had a lot of trouble getting it off and was afraid that i might break it. If anyone knows of how to take it off, please let me know as soon as possible

Thanks heaps..
