What do you consider poor? I'm getting about 23 - 24mpg with 50/50 mix on an LX with 1K on the odometer.

That's right were I expected that car based on it's 20/30 EPA ratings and given how far the EPA tests differ from "real world".

What's your MPG been running?

I remember reading somewhere that while the new engine is getting broken in, your mpg will go up slightly.

how are people bitching about the gas mileage in the 3.3L when the 2.4 only gets around 2-4mpg more? if you want fantastic gas mileage go buy a turbo diesel 4 banger and stop crying!

Be content. I am getting 15mpg in my 3.3L GLS with 4K miles. And it is an improvement.

Exactly why GM hasn't given up on the 3.8L engine. Low HP for size, but tons of torque and good gas mileage for pushrod.

I have no doubt the 3.3L will do 30 on a 100% freeway trip. Maybe that's what they were referencing.

the reason the 3.8 in GMs cars does so well on the highway is largely due to the TALL overdrive gear that they are able to use, which is part because this engine has a good amount of toque. It;s been my experience that the overdrive in Hyundai's aren't as high of a gear. This is the same way a 400 HP Corvette can pull mid to high 20s on the highway

We just took a trip to Pensacola and back and were averaging 28mpg @ 75mph on the interstate with the cruise on. We're currently just over 4,000 miles on the odometer.

Our morning and afternoon commute are so traffic laden I don't even bother with in-city MPG. One thing I did find out, if you're wanting to check your MPG on a trip with the computer you have to reset the MPG portion or it will just add your trip into the average since it was last reset.

I jus ahd a significant drop in mpg. My wife commutes about 55 miles a day. All highway, the car has 11,000 on it. She had been averaging 29 mpg consistantly, this included any around town driving she did on her days off. After reading other posts on this site, I changed from Castrol GTX to Castrol Synthetic oil on my last oil change. Also the idiots put on a fram filter instead of a WIX. ANyway, since the oil change last weekend, we are getting about 24 mpg on the highway. What the heck happened? This is not accepatable, if we wanted that we would have fotten the V6. Thanks for your opinion.

With everything else being the same, I don't see where going from conventional to synthetic would have had that type of result. However, what weight of oil did they use, was it the 5w-20 called for. Does Castrol make a 5W-20 Synthetic? I just don't know. And, if this was an oil service center that you used, could they have also checked your tire pressure, and lowered the pressures compared to what you previously had? The door label calls for 30psi, but I run 35 in my LX (the dealer delivered it with 50psi in each). Just an oil change with the proper oil, shouldn't result in a decrease. Also, now that we are in the winter months, fuel additives change in various parts of the country, perhaps your experiencing results of this.

I drove a 1991 buick regal w/3.8 L. engine for 15 years - a very similar vehicle to the 2006 lx in weight and engine.

The lx gets better mileage - especially on the open road - probably due to the five speed transmission.

The lx is also a pretty heavy car at 3460 lbs and has plenty of power - these are your tradeoffs for mpg.

I have an 06 Sonata one month old with 1k miles. It is only geting 16-18 mpg. I expected better since I was geting 20 on my 95 Intrepid.

Sonata only goes in 5th gear at 40 mph and drops to 4th at 30. DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THEY CAN FLASH THE COMPUTER TO LOWER 4 TO 5 UPSHIFT TO 35 AND DROP DOWN POINT TO ABOUT 25? It seems like the car is always engine breaking.

My Sonata LX is getting 21 city and 28 highway. Car has 6000 miles on the odometer. I think fuel economy has a lot to do with the driver's driving habits and the weight of his/her right foot.

Just took my forst road trip with my 2006 GLS V6. It was all Interstate and I averaged 28-30 MPG (Impressed). When I city drive I get about 24 MPG.

For a V6, I have to say I am happy. It os much better than the 12 MPG I was getting from my V6 pick-up.

Thats good. On a road trip my '06 GLS 3.3 only gets 24 and in suburban driving I only get 17-18 mpg. I have 1500 miles on car. When car idles the exhaust smells like paint thinner. Not a happy camper

From my point of view in a vehicle of Sonata size with 2.4-3.6 L engine 23.5 MPG is fully acceptable (equals 10l/100km).

28 MPG is a very good value already :)

I have driven 2 3.3L '06 Sonatas as demos. I get a new car every 4500 miles, and I'm on my 2nd one right now. 1st one was a GLS V6, and mileage was about 24mpg. This is mostly highway driving home, and on the way to work, of the 25 mins it would take me, 15 mins of it is sitting in super heavy traffic. I'm talking 10 mins to go 2 miles. I was happy. However, once the weather got colt, the gas mileage dropped instantly down to about 19mpg with the mixed driving I do. The car will run richer when cold to bring the engine temps up quicker, and when it's cold out, it takes longer to warm up. It might also read off of intake air temps too, but not for sure. After I miled out the GLS, I jumped into an LX, and the mileage is exactly the same. I have heard the same thing from some other people in the dealership experiencing the same thing when it got cold. I guess we'll see once the weather warms up whether the mileage gets better, but I'm guessing it will.
