Then I adjusted the brakes cleaned everything and still get noise .It occurs as the vehicle is comming to a stop last 10mph to stop. Any ideas?

no pedal pulsation sounds more rotational I guess a rotational creaking sound I looked over the springs and looked for maybe a ridge in the drum that was scraping along the side of the shoes, its got me puzzled I might just change out the shoes to see if it stops. Thanks

I too am having the same problem. Although the noise is only occasional. Any ideas? I thought that I may have gotten dirt in there but I can't find anything. The grinding noise just started happening. If the brakes are going bad, isn't there a warning signal? any help is appreciated.

As I was checking it out today, the noise went away but as my speed decreased to around 10 mph, the grind came back. Again any info is appreciated.

Dear Mr Frank and Shawn, Yes, I know exactly what is wrong with your rear brakes...the hold down springs are worn!! These are the springs that secure the brake shoes to the backing plate. Specifically, these hold the shoes at the right tension so you don't get chatter or squeal noises. 1) Replace those two hold down springs first 2) Did this fix the problem? If no, recommend you clean out all of the brake dust with a low VOC spray cleaner like this one: http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/...px?PN=05084&S=Y3) did this fix the problem? If no, recommend that you get your brake drums turned to remove the hard glaze on the braking surface. Byron

2002 Elantra, only 20k miles...does the same scratchy, rotational noise in rear brakes.
checked and adjusted them and the noise went away briefly, then came back.
Is there a possibility that these springs are worn out on a car that only has 20 k on it?
thanks
sammi
