A friend of mine just had his Hyundai in for service and one of his complaints was the lousy radio reception. Of course when he went back to pick up the car they told him they could find nothing wrong. However he did manage to get this little tidbit of information from the service manager and that was in a month or two a service bulletin will be issued with a fix for the radios. I'll believe it when I see it.

The Infinity sound system is a good one. Problem is most upscale sound systems today put all the money in FM reception. It's hard to get a system that has good AM reception. I have cured this by subscribing to Sirius radio and now I can listen to what I want with no commercials.

Just left my Hyundai after having my fuel filter changed. I asked about the radio situation and I was told that the only model that will be covered in the service bulletin will be the Elantra. Fuel filter cost $130.00 to replace. Totally outrageous. My Acura Legend only cost $50 parts and labor.

GREAT! My 2005 Elantra's AM reception is so bad I've stopped listening. Can't wait to see what the service bulletin has to say about a fix....if anything.

Would this solution refer to an antenna installed in the glass, as opposed to a "fixed" antenna on the exterior of the car? The Elantra's antenna is a "fixed" antenna, while the Santa Fe's is imbedded in the window.

If you notice the new Santa Fe's antenna is a stub mounted on the roof.

A big gripe with the radio of my 2002 Sonata was when I start the car with the radio on AM, I get several seconds of loud static as the antenna rises. It's extremely annoying and, of course, the Hyundai dealer said there was no fix. However, I unintentionally solved the problem recently when I left the radio with antenna up in the carwash. The carwash rollerbrush bent the antenna so that it only recedes halfway when I turn off the car. Now when I start the car, the antenna is already halfway up and I get much less static on AM !!!!!!!

Technical Service Bulletin Group 90 - Electrical Number 01-90-005 Subject Date 2001 XG 300 In-Glass Antenna Amplifier Weak AM Reception 05-2001 Model XG 300 2001
2001 XG300 IN-GLASS ANTENNA AMPLIFIER WEAK AM RECEPTION DESCRIPTION:
The rear window glass on the XG300 model contains specific AM/FM antenna grids. If the leads to the antenna amplifier from these grids are incorrectly reversed, the AM reception will be poor.
NOTE The antenna amplifier is powered ONLY when the radio is on, it is NOT powered when the CD or Cassette player is in use.
NOTE The antenna amplifier and the antenna grids in the rear window together form the "Diversity Antenna" as shown in the ETM under "Audio System".
NOTE Right rear "C"pillar with interior trim panel removed.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE:
Make sure the radio turns on, and that it operates in the CD mode. Verify the customer's description of the condition may be duplicated, and that it is not present in another XG300 under the same conditions with the same model radio that operates properly.
Access the antenna amplifier by removing the RH 'C' pillar trim. First, loosen the door opening molding to get access to the back of the RH 'C' pillar trim, then carefully pop the clips out of the 'C' pillar. Work from the top clips to the bottom, then remove the RH 'C' pillar trim.
If the AM mode does not operate but the FM mode does, check the connections between the antenna amplifier and the rear window in-glass antennas. You MUST make sure the lead with the yellow tape is connected to the top grid. If neither AM nor FM modes operate on the radio, check that the power and ground have at least 12V between them by using a test lamp when the radio is on in the AM or FM modes. Other checks include checking the integrity of the antenna feeder cable, and the connections between the antenna amplifier and the rear window in-glass antennas.
NOTE The antenna lead is clipped to the antenna amplifier. Slide the antenna lead up, then slide the collar up to release the lead. See photo for sequence.
NOTE When testing the antenna feeder cable integrity, be sure not to expand the female receptical at the rear of the vehicle. The resistance from end to end should not exceed 3 ohms; the resistance between the inner wire and the outer shielding wire should be infinite (greater than 1M ohms).
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Normal warranty procedures apply. Refer to the LTS manual for details.

:amen: AM STATIC CURED ON 2004 HYUNDAI SANTA FE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CURED the AM static (noise that sounds like electronic interference) on my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. The "static" only started 2-3 months ago. I pulled each fuse out of the fuse box individually, waited a few seconds, and stuck it back in - one fuse pulled at a time mind you. After that, the "static", which actually sounds more like squirrely electronic sounds, was gone. I can give many more details if anyone desires.

I have a 2004 Sonata with poor AM reception. It has an electric antenna. Anyone know of a booster or a fix for the radio? Thanks
