Biodiesel is now becomming more readily available arounf here, has anyone tried running a Teraacan CRDi on this fuel??
Did you try 100% biodiesel or one of the mixes?
Did it work?
Was any adjustment required?

The Terracan 2.9 CRDi is not capable of running on Biodiesel at all. Minimal mixtures with a few percent might work, but if you exceed about 5-10% the engine will begin running rough and shaky. Tried this by unfortunate surprise when travelling to France. I got something like a 25% mixture, which was cheap indeed, but was almost unusable. The whole car shakes like a wild horse and after about 100km I had to change fuel because it started to degradade parts.

I've been running my Terracan on Biodiesel without any problems.
Yes...there is a slight drop in acceleration but that's all when running 100% biodiesel. When on 20% biodiesel barely noticable. However, it does seem run better on petro-diesel. The biodiesel available is of a high quality. which may have been the issue for pelle.

Hello Guys,

I ve just tried a BioDiesel on my Terracan CRDI 2.9. I got it in Germany and crooss France for about 650 Km. No Problem atall. With cold weather (about -4 deg C) since few days, I have to try twice to start the engine. But apart of that, it's working fine. But I am back on normal Diesel now. I will try one more time when the weather becomes warm.

Its time we got some sensible answers to all this from Hyundai. With fossil diesel getting on for £1 per litre and biodiesel at 70 to 80 pence we need to know the score. The discussion on the Tucson forum just seems confused to me. Cooking oil is NOT biodiesel. Biodiesel is a properly formulated fuel with approriate international standards defining it (EN14214). According to my Terracan handbook the car runs on diesel fuel with a cetane rating of 52 to 54 and no methanol. Acording to the information at http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/approvals.htm. this means that biodiesel is an acceptable fuel. It also suggests that any car built since the mid 1990's should be able to use biodiesel without trouble. Incidentally all diesel fuel on sale in France contains 5% diester which is a form of biodiesel made from oil seed rape- MORE help for the french farmers. Come on Hyundai- there is a marketing opportunity here; be among the first to claim B100 compatability!!

Got exactly the same reply from my dealer.
If research is done the only 'actual' problems seem to come from blocked filters (everywhere warns about this due to the cleaning properties of bio) and rubber parts.
Injector manufactureres warn of ULS fuel and the lubricity of such, bio is supposidly better for this.
Doen anyone know if the fuel punp in the 2.9 contains any (real) rubber? This and this alone is stopping me switching to at least a B50 for a 3 month trial then to B100.
