Attached Image Hyundai not just a badge, also a crap car and service.

Hi,
Please all be aware of this possible fault with the Hyundai coupe, my car is a 2L se and is 04 reg, it was bought brand new and driven off the forecourt of our local Hyundai dealer in Rushden, N'hants.
The vehicle was returned to the Hyundai garage for a few minor repairs and then returned to us on Tuesday 27 Sept 05, the car was reversed onto our drive and the cars engine turned off, the vehicle handbrake fully applied, my drive is on a very very slight slope, the dealer came to the door and my wife went out to inspect the car, after about 2 minutes of looking around the car (with no movement) there was a loud bang from the car and the car shot back towards our house at a speed as if the car was being reversed, the car travelled straight through our garage door of which was double locked and scraped down the wall taking the delivery guy with it causing him grazing to his arms.
Hyundai sent out engineer to look at the car and the site who stated that "there was a fault with the vehcile and it wasent driver error" we are lucky that the dealer was here when this happened (and almost got run over trying to stop the car).
Please contact your dealer and get your vehicles checked immediately, this was not a case of the handbrake not being applied correctly but a fault that may cost a lot of money, the garage have taken the car back and have been able to recreate the problem by applying the handbrake and pushing it at an angle thus releasing the handbrake, the cable has not snapped but Hyundai are trying to hush this up and from admitting that there was a fault now say the handbrake may of worn out after 1 years of use as it may not have been used correctly!!!
it's lucky that my wife and 4 month old son were not stood behind the vehicle at the time, Hyundai are trying to get a hold on the UK car sales with their latest TV ad compains but are selling death traps!

welcome to the forum :00000732:

l've never heard of this very alarming problem before and can't recall anyone talking about any issue like this on thease forums, however that does not alter the fact that it's happend to you. couple of questions, was the engine running at the time? if not can't understand how the car 'shot back at speed' what was propelling it? please keep us informed about future developments, if you don't get a compleatly satisfactory answer from your dealer get the car inspected independantly by the AA or RAC.......look forward to your future comments

sorry, you did say the engine was switched off

This belongs in the Coupe/Tiburon forum.......& yes, there has been some discussion of this isolated instance on the U.K.H.C.C. forums.

there has been quite a lot of talk all about this issue, to sum up it would seam that this was just an isolated incident (although alarming for the owner) and as far as anyone knows there have been no other cases of this happening.

the same thing was happening some years ago affecting citroen cars and there was a **** of a stink about in the media at the time.

l am sure that hyundai, or any other car maker would never try to cover up such a important safety fault like this as, among other things they would leave themselfs wide open to being sued left right and centre

l also think that the owner of the car is being very unfair when he discribes hyundai's as being 'crap cars with crap service' as this could have happend to any make of car and also from what l can gather the local dealer and hyundai managers from higher up the ladder delt with this issue extreamly well

buy the way, l have no connection with hyundai motor company what so ever (besides owning two of their products)

its not that big a deal..geez.....seems to be a problem with the locking mechanism for the brake...get it replaced under warranty...Hyundai should pay for any damage it cause...and the car should always be left in gear when parked.....if it was in gear, that wouldnt have happened

O yes, it could be a big deal, if the handbrake were to slip and then the car ran over a child!

over in this part of the world a driving instructor would never teach a pupil to leave a parked car in gear, over here, unlike in the states cars are not fitted with a system where you have to depress the clutch to start the car

I have just had a very alarming incident in my Coupe 2000 automatic. On starting a three-point turn in a narrow lane, the car drove forward at high speed. I hit the brake immediately (and automatically) and it eventually skidded to a halt. Skid marks show from the point at which I was first parked. Extremely fortunately, I steered into a driveway opposite - although hitting the stone wall at the entrance and badly damaging the front wing. The car stopped a foot short of the house wall. I have driven authomatics for years, and the Coupe for most of those, without any problem. It was very frightening and I need to know what happened. Can anyone help, please?

All Concerned

I have found this topic very helpull in light of recent events involving my wifes Coupe 2.7 SE. It was parked on a hill with the handbrake fully applied while my wife went to pick up my son from his school club.

less than half a minute after leaving the vehicle it began to roll backwards down the hill. My wife chased the car in fear that the vehicle would injure a child or someone else. She leapt in the window to try and bring the vehicle to a halt, which she managed to do. Not before she was crushed between the car and a wall causing severe injury to herself.

I would appreciate any other members of the forum who have experienced similar problems getting in touch with me so that i can ensure that Hyundai resolve this problem before someone is killed.

Thanks all

I just finished paint the calipers and was moving the car and when I went to pull up the handbrake it went bang and the car started rolling!!!i was lucky i was sitting in the car at the time!I felt like I did something wrong but after reading this thread I know Im not alone! Hyundai did fix the cable under warrenty (I needed a new one) but the customer service wasnt fantastic by any means

Hello everyone, this is my first post - I wondered if anybody could help me with this problem - I have just had my 2004 Coupe SE 2.0 in for MOT on Saturday at Hatfields in York. I thought the car would get through no problem. It failed on two areas - the upper power steering pipes or hoses leaking and the parking brake efficiency is below standard - the first problem is covgered by the warranty - the second is apparently not - they say that the whole handbrake needs replacing and they claim it is general wear and tear - therefore they are going to charge me £250 to replace it - I am sopeechless - I thought that this would be covered by warranty - should a handbrake really need fully replacing after just 4 years? does it sound like general wear and tear? I really don't think it seems right and fair - it was only in for its 40000 mile service three months ago and nothing was picked up about it there - if anybody has any ideas about what I should do please let me know - thank you.
